So, DH and I have said since the begining that we will buy a new (bigger) car once we get pregnant. Well now we are and I am so lost on what to look for and what to get. Does anyone have a great mommy car that they want to share info on? Also, we have mainly been looking at crossovers. Do you think they are better then cars or what is your take on all that? What are the main things to look for?

Thanks for any advice you have ladies...we are at a loss right now...

Well I love my Rav 4. We were looking at going a little bigger for when the baby comes though. If we can sell my Rav we'll be getting an Acura MDX. Depending on your budget, I also liked the Mazda CR7 and the Mitsubishi Endeavor (I think). There's a lot available in the crossover category now.

Just wanted to pipe in on the Honda CR-V. Don't buy it! Seriously, the older models are great, but the new models are really uncomfortable (especially for long trips) and seem to suddenly have a lot more mechanical problems. I don't know what they did differently to the new model that gives it mechanical troubles, but it seems to be the only model affected. All other Honda's still seem to run great. I know of 3 people who have purchased the new style CR-V after falling in love with the older ones and none of them are happy with their vehicles.

Also too, I don't know what you have now, but DH and I just bought a 2010 Accord and we LOVE it. Very roomy and very comfortable inside, front and back seat. Good size trunk (plenty of room for a stroller plus other stuff) and it's EXTREMELY safe.

Good luck and have fun with your car shopping! That's always a fun experience (until you get to financing LOL).

I have to agree with Michelle, Accords are AWESOME. I have a Jetta and I plan on driving it for a while, mostly b/c Dh just had to get a new Daddy mobile & its safe. But i had looked at getting a Ford Escape for just a second. I really like them and love that they're not too big. My SIL has a Ford Edge and LOVES it...def some good deals to be had on NEW cars. My friend has a mazda tribute and she really likes it. She has an infant and a 2 yr old so she has 2 car seats and lots of room in the back for all of her gear. So there's a few things to think about.

I have a Ford Escape and love it. For us I think it will work great. The back has a decent amount of space and the bench seat folds down in either 60% or 40% to give you a bit more space if needed. But like Kate said they are not "big" so if you are looking for something that will do for more than one child the escape is likely not a great options. Having said that we have friends with the equinox and I think they are about the same interior space.

My sister has been looking into a bigger vehicle because her car is too small (dodge avenger). It is not a small car but she finds she hardly has any space for stuff when all the baby stuff is in (diaper bag, stroller, etc). I would definitely suggest something bigger than a car.

I have a GMC Acadia and it is awesome !!! It seats 7, so you can fill it up (lol that is what I told DH, he was like no it is so that you have lots of trunk space ) I am pretty sure it is replacing the Envoy (since GMC doesn't make it anymore)

Kim - we were going to get an Acura MDX (since I used to drive the RSX and it was the best little car) but we don't have an acura dealership in Medicine Hat, you will have to tell me what it is like once you get one

my sister has the equinox and LOVES it. I test drove a Ford Edge and really liked that too. Since you have a high chance of multiples, I would either wait until you know how many babies you have in there, or get a bigger SUV. Just my opinion

We have a Ford Explorer XLT (3rd row seating; seats 7). It's excellent for us. We have a German Shepherd who goes practically everywhere with us and now he can fit in the back (with the 3rd row laid down) and we still have 3 seats + driver and passenger. And with the 3rd row laid down there's tons of room for storing whatever back there. Also the 4 wheel drive is a godsend on Alaska roads!

I'm not much of a help. Our newest car is a Toyota Camry, not exactly a big vehicle but it's way bigger than DH's old sports car he used to drive. I've really liked it.
