Our little miracle, Kennedi Fate was born on 5.25.10 at 9:18 am weighing 6 pounds 7 ounces and 19 1/4 inches long. I wish I could say that my c-section was a breeze but it wasn't. For those of you that have to have one might want to skip this paragraph. The morning of our c-section the nurse came in and asked if we would be willing to move up our surgery time an hour. I'm a type A personality that does best planning. So that threw me for a whirlwind but we went with it. They took me back and gave me my spinal, which didn't take all the way. They prepped me and then brought DH in. We had the NICU team that I work with. We had alot of support and everyone was there giving us pep talks. I was really nervous about the surgery I kept getting the feeling that something was going to go wrong. I didn't feel him cut into the skin but when it came to the muscles I was feeling everything. They gave us the option to try and breath through it for a couple of minutes till she was out or go completely under general. I decided to tough it out. As soon as she was out they gave me some pain meds and versed and I forgot everything that happened after that for 18 hours. They took me to recovery and I started bleeding really bad from where the placenta had been attached. The Dr ordered some meds to make it stop. My blood pressure went through the roof so they kept us there for 3 hours. Michael got to give Kennedi her first bath. Oh she did have some resp issues right off the bat but the neonatologist kept her in the OR with us and did all the treatments. SHe came out of it really quickly. They were so great. She did have some temp issues too, they put her on my chest for three hours. I don't remember it but they took pics of it. When we got to post partum my kidneys shut down. I don't remember much from that night but the next morning I woke up and DH had left the computer up with all the pics of her birth so that I could see it first thing. I started crying watching them. That day I had lost too much blood so they had to give me two units of blood. I was white as a ghost. I had Ash come and sit with me so that if something went wrong she would be there and know what to do. She was awesome. DH was incredible and stayed by our sides the whole time. He took over diaper changes while I was out of it and lactation even taught him how to get her latched on. He really surprised me by the way that he took charge to take care of us. There is this thing called "the curse of the nurse" and it rang true for me.

We went home after two days for the first time in 6.5 weeks. I cried as soon as I saw our house. Kennedi lost a little too much weight at first because my milk didn't come in right away, due to the blood loss. She was also jaundice so we were started on home phototherapy. I was just thankful we didn't have to go back to the hospital. After 4 days of phototherapy she was doing great. She was a really cute glow worm though.

We went for our two week follow up today and she's 6 pounds 11 ounces now and doing great. My milk has come in and we have started weaning her off of the formula that we were supplementing with. I can't believe everything that has happened over the last two weeks. I most sad because I dont get to have the last two weeks back. I can't believe how fast they grow up. The breast feeding is going great she's doing really well with latching now.

Thank you all for the support and prayers. I truly believe that without them she would not be here today. Everytime DH and I look at her we can't believe she's really here and really ours!!! She's our miracle!!!!! We are both so in love with her, I never thought that Michael and I could love anything more, but we now realize that she has us wrapped around her little fingers.

I'm sorry to hear that your c/s was so rough, but I am glad to hear that you a both doing so well now. Kennedi is absolutely gorgeous!! And I have to say that the part about your DH learning how to get her latched is just amazing. I even told my DH about that part. I honestly don't think most men would think to do that, much less actually go forward in doing it, so to know that he did this without hesitation is very commendable. I hope that you guys continue to do well and that you have no further health issues to contend with!

Kennedi is a perfect DOLL--looks so much like you! I usually can't see so much resemblance right away, but wow! She is destined to become your mini-me. So sorry your surgery was so rough after all you've already been through to get your sweet baby, but it's all behind you now... all that's left is enjoying your life with your precious daughter!

Amanda thank you so much for sharing your story. I am so sorry your CS didn't go well. I can relate to that, but definitely not to the level you experienced. I was so out of it in the beginning too and missed so much. It makes me sad still to this day, but you even said it, the most important thing is that she is hear and you BOTH are healthy and happy as ever!!! She is absolutely beautiful! I'm so happy for you and can't wait to see her grow!
