Hey girls, I posted this on my FB but would greatly appreciate it if you would pass it along in your DDC's and PR's. This is a very old and dear friend of mine's 5 month old daughter that this happened to. They found her yesterday, face down and not breathing. They know she'd been without oxygen for more than 5 minutes, but they don't yet know the extent of any damage. The baby is not doing well.

Heads up on this product...Walmart's Parents Choice crib mattress liners...they are lined with plastic and my friends 5 month old baby is in the hospital right now because she rolled over while sleeping and suffocated!! Please pass this on to anyone with babies and please, please, please, continue to pray for my friend, her baby and their family.

Thanks yall,
Michelle

Sadly, Alyssa lost her fight for life yesterday around noon. Today, her mother told us that the product name that she gave us while at the hospital was incorrect. (She was understandably under a lot of stress and accidentally confused the names.) Here is the post as well as the correct information from her FB.

"The crib mattress pad was circo, not parents choice. I cut it open with scissors yesterday to see exactly what was inside it, and it was a thin flimsy sheet of plastic. Almost like Saran wrap. Please parents of babies, see if this is on ur babies crib mattresses."

I believe that brand of mattress pad came from Target.

It is one of the waterproof ones. There is plastic in the middle rather than it just being more heavily padded or absorbent. The baby isn't doing well at all so I want to make sure that this message is passed along. I don't want to see this happen to anyone else.

I know, it's terrifying to think about. That's why I'm begging everyone to please post this message in their DDC's and PR's so that others are aware of the dangers of that product.

Do you mind me asking how old this precious little girl is? I've been wanting to purchase one of those Angelcare mats that has an alarm that goes off if baby quits breathing for 20 seconds, I think this may give me the push to do that.

She and her twin sister are 5 months old. Her mom never expected her to roll over because she hadn't done that yet. I would definitely push for something like that monitor!

I hope her baby makes a full recovery. I can not imagine that happening. There is a twin mom out there who blogs about her family. One of her twins had a choking accident at 11 months and it has completely changed their lives. In a while, if you think your friend could use some help with this, I encourage you to point her toward The Fisch Tank.

Thanks for the link, I will share that with her once things calm down a bit. As of this morning the baby is stable enough that they will be reducing the medications she's on to see how responsive she is. As of last night her brain was swelling badly but that seems to have slowed/stopped, thank God. Just asking that everyone keeps praying for her.
