So we had our third anatomy scan yesterday. They were checking some things in the baby's head. I can't remember the terminology for it but it had something to do with the cerebellum and the space between the cerebellum and skull. When we had our last doctors appointment last week we talked about it and my doctor said the ultrasound tech wanted to check it again because the measurements were on the "upper end of normal". Dr. Tankel didn't seem to worried about it but since the ultrasound techs are right in the office we went for a third scan.
She checked everything again as it if was our first anatomy scan so we got to see the baby for quite some time. Our child does not like have the ultrasound tech playing around with his/her space. There was a lot of punching at the machine when she got near the face. Some of her measurements were a bit concerning to me (as the mother) because she has the baby measuring between 2 and 4 weeks ahead. I know it is normal to measure ahead or behind at this point but when I saw that this child had some measurements in the 29 week range it shocked me. She also has the weight estimated at 2 lb 9 oz. So in the 3 weeks since our last scan the baby has gained around a pound.
Here are some pictures:
Baby L hiding its face with its arm - we saw this a lot 3 weeks ago too.

Yes Cheryl I knew that today was 99 days. I have been waiting for this day since Kate pointed out how close I was 8 days ago
Jess - I can only hope this baby comes early if he/she is going to be a big baby. They didn't really say if things were "good" but usually I find out the day after the ultrasound or at latest 2 days after if they need me in for more tests or another ultrasound. So at this point I am actually hoping the phone won't ring

Well I got the call I was hoping not to get. Don't know what they want yet but I have to call the receptionist at my doctors office tomorrow. That usually means rescheduled appointment or another ultrasound. Since my next doctors appointment is 3 weeks away I am going with another ultrasound.

It is official. Ultrasound number 4 is booked for August 3rd. I think I am just going to accept that I will have ultrasounds every 3 weeks from now until I deliver. Seems to be the way things are going so might as well roll with it.

Oh Michell, I'm sorry you have to go again. Did they say what exactly they will be looking for?
I'm in the same boat as you, as we have to go back for our 5th u/s (7 if you include the 2 electives), on August 4th, for them to look at the growth of the baby (I had high HCG levels in my blood during my 2nd trimester screening which can cause placenta and growth problems). Instead of worrying, I try to look at the bright side of seeing our baby again. Glad you are able to keep a postive spirit as well.

They never tell me what they want to check over the phone (unless I can actually get a hold of my doctor and not just the receptionist). And my next doctor's appointment is the day after my next ultrasound.
But I know what they are checking. They are checking the Cisterna magna in the baby's brain. It is what they checked the last time I was there too. It is a part of the brain behind the cerebellum that contains the fluid for the brain. The ultrasound tech is concerned because ours is measuring on the "upper end of normal". I did some research and to have any sort of concern for complications teh CM needs to be greater than 10 mm and ours measured right on 10 mm at the last ultrasound. The other thing I found out is that even with an enlarged CM it almost always means nothing is wrong. Most of the reports I ready said things like 15 out of 15 patients with enlarged CM went on to have healthy, normal (chromosomally) babies. But I guess there is reason for concern because it can be loosely associated with chromosomal abnormalities.
So I will just take the extra opportunity to see the baby again and try to keep work from complaining too much about all the extra time away from the office.

I'm sorry that you are having to process all of this...it sounds like you've done your research and know what is going on and why you are getting u/s though so at least you have some knowledge to back up what's going on. And you have a great positive attitude, I'm sure you bugaboo is just fine and is thriving! And now, you get to see for yourself on a regular basis (jealous!!).
If work is making you feel bad for having so many appointments, try to remember not to care!!!! This is YOUR time with YOUR baby, and you are doing what you need to do. KUP on what is going on mama!

It's nice that they're being really cautious. And - you get to see Baby L more often. I noticed that you referred to Baby L as "she" a lot. Is there something you know that we don't, or do you have a hunch???

Yes I am glad they are being cautious and now that I have accepted that I will just get lots of ultrasounds I am doing better not to let the why and what's wrong thoughts take over too much.
I actually think it is a boy and have thought that for a long time. Perhaps the "she" comments are a way of reminding myself NOT to call it a HE since I really don't know for sure. Kinda like reminding myself that there is a possibility that this is in fact a girl and not the boy I have thought for so long.
