At this stage, it is probably your mucus plug actually *forming*. It isn't even fully formed until some time in your 2nd month, if I remember correctly. Plus, if it is white or yellow, it could just be excess discharge (which is normal at all stages of pregnancy, but especially the beginning and the end!)
Mine looked somewhat like what you're describing, and I just had a nice long chat with my midwife about it... She said it could be either a piece of my plug (because I'm so far along) or just excess discharge that built up. But she *did* say that usually, your mucus plug will have some sort of pink or reddish tint to it!
I wouldn't worry too much (I know, easier said than done) - baby is growing away just fine in there!
ETA: It could also be an infection if it is yellow or green, I'd go in and see your doc just to be sure!
