anyone use these or interested in learning?? I think this is cool...I have a friend with a deaf daughter so i find signing particularly interesting but i also think its so cool to watch our babies at work sign. Its mostly the toddlers, but its still amazing what they know.

It's certainly something I'm interested in. I worked in an infant room in college and all the babies could do a few basic signs. It was so great that the little ones could communicate like that to let us know what they wanted/needed.

DH and I sign with A&E all the time. They know a ton of signs but have only just started doing them back. DH's sister is deaf, so we both know most signs we'd need. It's been easy for us to use them. It's amazing how much they can understand at a young age. They knew milk and bath by 6 months. They probably would have know then earlier, but we didn't use them enough before then.

My SIL taught my niece basic signs early on and it was so helpful for her to tell us what she wanted even though she couldn't speak yet. I think it cut down on some crying spells. No one deaf in the family, I think they had such read how helpful it could be.

Someone I knew did this, she had been doing it all the time since he was almost born and by the time he was 9 months old, he was signing. His first word was "eat" You can look through her blog The Wade Family

I think it is very neat and I honestly think that everyone should know some because who knows what kind of situation you could end up in or when you might have to help someone.

I would love to learn to sign and have always thought when I'm blessed with a baby I will start teaching them the basic signs.
I have seen a friend of mine use sign with her little girl (who is not deaf) and she found it great...

A good friend of my sister's signed with her son. He did great and knew alot of signs before he could talk.

The only problem was I was babysitting one time and he kept signing that he wanted his bottle but I didn't know that's what he was doing!! He kept screaming and screaming. Finally when his mom picked him up she told us that was the sign for bottle. I felt so bad because I'm sure he was thinking we were ignoring his request. She had told us he had just eaten so he wouldn't need a bottle. But, I guess he wanted it for comfort. Poor baby.

So, just make sure your babysitters know the signs too

100% yes yes yes! I will definitely be teaching my baby signs from birth on. It is so beneficial for the baby to have a mode of communication before they can actually speak. I can't wait to start!!!
