So, I have a question. On Thursday it will be 6 weeks since my C section, and I am still bleeding a little. My question is...I was told we weren't to wear Tampons...but I am leaving for BC on Wednesday, and I'm pretty sure Thursday is a beach day which is ok, I don't have to go in the water...it is kinda cold anyway, but Friday night and Saturday night we have a hotel with a pool, and I would like to go in the pool and more so in the hot tub. I am not bleeding that much, but enough that I do need to wear a pantyliner...my question is, is it ok for me to wear a tampon now?? Or do I still have to wait. I really don't want to miss out on the family fun at the pool.
Also, does anyone know if you can buy itty bitty swimmers...Ray is only in a size one diaper, and the smallest I've seen swimmers is 3.

You can buy really small cloth swim diapers. I really like our Bummis ones and they come in a 9-15 lb size. If she isn't 9 lbs, but has chunky legs, the diaper should still fit. There are other brands that come in smaller than that. I like this brand because it velcros off like a regular diaper and if baby poops you aren't trying to pull a diaper down off her legs.
I would call your doctors office about the tampon. I know that I probably would have worn one by then. My cervix was pretty closed, but I was still spotting a little.

I'd also suggest you call your doc about the tampon wearing and swimming. The fact that you're still bleeding (even though it's only spotting) probably means you're not 100% healed yet which may mean no tampons and no swimming.

Like the other girls said, I'd call the doc to make sure but most guidelines actually say that you can't wear a tampon for 6 weeks and after that is OK. Basically just because of the risk of infection, but if everything is all closed up and healed except for a little bleeding, your doc will probably give you the OK. Another option would be to try Instead cups or Mooncups - ask your doctor about those if tampons aren't an option. Because they aren't absorbant, there is no risk of TSS using them so they may be OK even if he doesn't want you using tampons just yet. Just make sure to get the bigger size (they all come in two sizes, one for women who haven't had babies and one for women who have - apparently once you give birth, your cervix gets bigger.)
And for the dipes, I second the Bummis recommendation! I know you don't have time to order online anymore because you're leaving soon, but I found a lady right in Winnipeg who sells them from her website - maybe give her a call, and you can pick one up locally! Here's the swim diapers she carries - Newborn, Baby, and Toddler Swim Diapers in Canada - ClothDiaperMom.com Online Baby Boutique in Canada
They fit MUCH smaller babies than disposables, and little Ray can use them for the rest of the summer without having to buy more if you swim again when you come home!
Or you can just let her go in naked after she has done her business... Babies won't often pee or poop in water (it does happen, but not often) - I guess they're too distracted by the sensations to do that. Same reason Ray probably hasn't peed in the bath, she probably won't pee in the pool, either.
Good luck, and have fun!

I put in a tampon 2 days ago...my pp bleeding stopped about a month ago, so I don't think the spotting I'm having is related to it. I was kind of scared at first, but just went with it and everything was okay.
But since your pp bleeding is still going on, I'd call and ask the nurse or doctor.

I should also mention that I didn't deliver vaginally. I had a C section, and was only 5 cm dialated.

Unfortunately here in Canada, Dr's don't take phone calls.

Marci I think you will be fine. My mom has always told me that even when you are on your period for some reason when you are swimming it doesn't come out lol and I have noticed this!! I had a c-section to and my doctor told me at my 6 week appointment that as long as my scar didn't have any openings that it would be fine for me to go into our hot tub and I haven't had any issues at all I am sure it would be fine!!
Have sooo much fun, every mom needs a vacation

Lexi didn't get this memo....she pooed everywhere in her first bath home! That was quite the adventure for me and DH!
My dr told me tampons were fine to use after 6 weeks as well and I had a vaginal with tearing. I think the risk of infection is minimal after 6 weeks or so. Is there maybe a nurse line you could talk to?

I dunno about the tampons but what the the other girls say. Can you maybe get in for a quick appt?
I like the swim diapers that Cheryl recommended. They are less expensive than the little swimmers and look better!!

I found a bummie!!! So she has a swim diaper. I didn't get a chance to see the dr. but I spoke to a nurse friend of mine, and she said I should be fine, just to buy the lightest tampons there are, and only wear them as long as necessary. and then change back to a pad or panty liner. Thanks girls...I can't believe we leave tomorrow in the very early morning!!!!!!!!

Awesome news! Oh, and while some people recommend not using them, if you want to make cleanup a little bit easier you can find diaper liners almost anywhere - flushable ones! EBF poop is completely water soluble, you don't even need to rinse first just throw it in the washing machine - BUT having a flushable liner (like a Bummis liner) makes it even easier, because you just flush away any poop! And they're under $10/roll, and pretty easy to find.
Totally optional though. I'll be stalking on Facebook to see pics of little Ray swimming with her momma! I hope you girls have SO much fun!
