Hey ladies! I could really use all the t&p's we can get for my newborn niece. She was born Friday night and swallowed a bit of fluid, but otherwise healthy they thought. They kept her in the nursery for observation and then Sunday morning she started having seizures. She's now in the NICU and they are running all sorts of tests on her. They've done a spinal tap, MRI, EKG and so far everything has come back normal. As you can imagine the new parents are totally distraught. The new mommy hasn't even gotten to hold her yet. They are getting released today but the baby is being kept in the NICU. I can't even imagine...all you want is a health little one. Please please pray that she's ok. Last I heard they were thinking possible menegitis. We hope she gets healthy soon.

Thoughts and prayers coming your way. This story sounds very similar to my cousins. I hope your niece has the same outcome as my cousin - clean bill of health after many many tests. My cousin was born and almost immediately had a couple siezures. After tests, observation, etc everything came back normal and she was allowed to go home. She is now 2 and had not had any complications from her dramatic entry into the world.
I hope your niece has the same outcome as my cousin - clean bill of health!

OMG...I am so sorry Carla...my thoughts and prayers are with them. I can't even imagine not still being able to hold their baby. It was hard enough waiting 5 hours after she was born to be able to hold Ray!!! Please let them know that all of our T & P are with them.

Thanks ladies! So far still no word, just waiting on more test results to come in. She is on anti-seizure meds and those are helping. Before her whole body was seizing and this last one just her arm was shaking. My MIL snapped a pic of her in the NICU and of course the flash gave her another seizure We also found out that she was in labor for 2 1/2 days and then pushing for over 2 hours, so she was stuck in the birth canal a while. They didn't let anyone know anything right away so we're just now getting the details. I'm hoping its just the tramatic birth and nothing serious or lasting.
Michelle, did you cousin have a tramatic birth as well? We're hoping and praying for a similar outcome.

Yes Carla my cousin's birth was reasonably traumatic. I can not remember all the details but I know it ended in an emergency c-section so I can imagine Avery (the little one) was stuck in the birth canal for a while.

Thank you everyone for the thoughts and prayers! So far all the tests have come back normal and she hasn't had a seizure in 4 days! She is supposed to get cleared and be able to come home today so we're just crossing our fingers and waiting on the call! She has to follow up with the neonatal neurologist, but everything looks good and they're hoping they can get her off the seizure meds soon. We can't wait to meet her! We haven't been able to see her yet since she's been in the NICU. I really hope she gets to come home today. My husband has been so broken up about the whole situation (this is his little brother and with us just having our own child he can't even imagine how tough that would be. He feels so guilty for having a healthy child while they have to go through this.) and he really wants to meet his first neice!

Fantastic news Carla! Can't wait until you come in here and tell us that you finally got to meet her! This all sounds very much like my cousin and so hope it continues to follow that trend.
