I will be making Nikolas' food instead of buying the jarred foods. Does anyone have any suggestions on some good books?

I don't have any book recommendations, but I follow this group on Facebook : Homemade Baby Food Recipes | Facebook and they have recipes all over the place, plus they send out new recipes in a weekly newsletter, and they even have occasional giveaways of stuff like homemade baby food kits (that include the little masher/grinder thing, storage containers, etc.)

Something else you might want to look at (since we're considering doing the same thing, we've done a lot of research!) is what is called "baby-led weaning". I won't get into details here, but it makes it easier to feed AND you don't have to use jarred baby food... Or even anything other than what you and DH are eating for dinner. Really easy, and better for baby, too!

Hope that helps!

While I was TTC we found this at Williams Sonoma, the link is to the baby food maker but on the left hand side they also have a book. A friend of mine just uses a hand held Kitchenaid mixer to puree the food and then does the ice cube tray freezing & puts them in a ziplock in the freezer with the date of freeze & date to discard by on it.

Super Baby Food by Ruth Yaron. It's the homemade baby food Bible! All the parents I work for use it.

That is so cool that you won through them Elissa! And hey, if you try the baby-led weaning, let me know how it goes! DH and I are seriously considering it (it just seems to make sense to us...) so I'd love to hear about another mommas experience

I also have the anna korbel book like Gwen!! I haven't actually made anything out of it but it looks good (we are feeding Hunter the organic baby food out of a jar right now)

Cheryl - I am going to look into this baby led weaning because Hunter is always reaching for our food, but I am not sure if she should be eating it because she doesn't have any teeth yet!!

Love the Wholesome Baby Food site here as well!

We were originally going to do BLW w/ Savannah - but she has no interest in holding on to anything - won't eat it or go near it if one of us holds it either... BUT if I mash it up or puree it she's all over it.
