thoughts and prayers are needed for a family in my home town.
An 18 month old is in critical condition after being beaten in a day home, please pray for this family in such a hard time. I am just sick that this happened in the small (well semi small) town that I live in right now

I know and the girl that was running the dayhome is only 23, it is just sad to me that dayhomes aren't regulated when they should be

That is absolutely disgusting and is why we ultimately chose a daycare center versus home care.

What disgusted me more is that *I'M* 23 - and I can't honestly imagine how someone my age could ever even think of doing something so disgusting. Just makes me want to go find that girl and show her how the baby felt...

I read the story online when I was at work. I'll never understand how anyone could hurt a child. I hope the toddler recovers and doesn't remember what happened.

That is horrible. That little girl and her family will be in my thoughts and prayers. Hearing things like this makes me want to beat the crap out of them. I don't understand how someone could hurt a child.

Megan, That is soooo sad!! I will pray for that family!!
I absolutely hate that this kind of story gives home based daycares a bad rap. I just wanted to say that, with absolutely NO OFFENSE intended to ANYONE, my daughter is in a home based daycare, her provider is absolutely amazing with the children. She has been doing this for about 20 years or so. I am just basically saying that stuff like this, unfortuneately happens, probably way more than any of us care to know (because it just angers us too much), whether it be a home daycare or a daycare center. We just HAVE to make the best decision that we can based on research and the needs of our children. I know that I visited different places and asked a bunch of questions. I also spoke with other moms regarding their experiences with different daycare programs. I have also made unscheduled appearances which is something that I would recommend. We decided that the home daycare was the best for us and it fit our needs.
I hope that the woman gets what she deserves and I do agree with Mommy2Camden (I can't remember your name and it is not in your siggy AHHHHH...sorry) that I do not understand why the chick was released!!

Yah it gives dayhomes a bad name, which isn't fair because some people actually are great with kids. It is just so horrible I look at my baby and couldn't even imagine what I would do to someone if they did that to my baby!! I told my sister that word of mouth recommendations are the way to go when it comes to childcare, because a lot of women this days are finding their dayhomes on the internet, which can be really dangerous
The women here wish that they would release her name because they would hunt her down!! It just makes me sick
Cheryl - I am sorry if my comment about age upset you, I didn't mean anything by it, I just meant that how could someone at that age even think about hurting a baby, it is just so sad. At 23 she should know what is right and wrong and how to treat a child. I know lots of people who have had kids even younger and they are amazing parents, obviously some people are not meant to have children

Unfortunately it is not good news. The 18 month old little girl passed away over night and is now with all the angels in heaven I am crying right now. I can't even imagine what this poor family is going through.
My only hope is that this women gets what is coming to her, she deserves to be in prison for a long time, I am just sick to my stomach.....

that is so sad
and becky, i totally agree with you....not sure if my comment sparked that response. i would have preferred julie to be in a home but the people/places that I did talk with/visit and liked had no openings. plus, there have been more incidents here (newsworthy) with home providers than centers (plus we know the pastor at the center we're enrolled). And the self reported incidents along with compliance reports were better at the center we chose than many of the others, home and center both.
The one home provider that did have an opening was a 21 year old pregnant female that watches drop ins. She might have no one to watch that day or she might have 10. She was not registered...I met her through a mothers group. It wasn't her age or pregnancy that got me though. She provided me a short summary/resume/qualifications of herself and she misrepresented herself. And on top of that, she told me she would not need any recovery time after pregnancy...meaning she would have her newborn, her 2 year old, my daughter and any drop-ins right after she gives birth and is home. I didn't feel comfortable with that.
i think daycares in general have bad raps but since we don't know anyone in the daycare realm, we choe the option that would give us the most peace of mind.

That is so awful. I'm praying that that awful lady is punished and that the poor little baby's family can find some peace. I just don't understand how someone could do that to an innocent child!
