the next person who gripes at me for buying stuff for my baby!

OMG...i am irate, not kidding. Pregnancy hormones or not, i'm not okay with people telling me what i can and cannot buy for my son. And i will go loca on the next person who tells me to stop buying things for him. Honestly i have purchased all of my furniture and things to outfit the nursery (mattress/changing pad/cover/etc). I bought my travel system (which was $60...way too good to let go at the orig price of almost 200, my pack n play which was 90, from 150, and my swing that matches b/c it was also on clearance 80 from 130 and was the only one they had left). That's IT. Now i have clothes, yes but not nearly enough for him to not need more. My mom is making my bedding, and i have some decorative items for his nursery but GOOD LORD i am not letting people purchase things for his room and i am not going to not get what i want if its a good deal so that i can not get it and have to find something else or have to pay full price. I do NOT expect anyone to buy me big ticket items...there are plenty of higher $$ items that people can purchase if they insist. But i mean honestly does it matter if i bought them or someone gave them to me?? And in all honesty isn't all baby stuff expensive...come on people. Stop giving me grief about getting/having what i want and trying to do it in the most cost effective way. My friends, my mom and my sister are all about to seriously piss me off!!!!

Ugh thats annoying! Its kind of funny people are giving you crap for it because i think alot of ladies will agree with me, when it comes baby shower time there is quite often a TON of the littler items not NOT the big stuff!

I have been lucky so far - no one has bugged me about buying things for the baby (but then again I have not bought much). My parents and my in-laws just gave us money and said "go buy what you want" which was a HUGE relief. I love being able to pick out the stuff I want and not being told I have to wait for someone else to buy it. There will be TONS to buy when the shower comes around but I agree with you - I am not letting someone else buy the big stuff (partly price but partly because I WANT TO myself).

Girl I'm not even pregnant yet and my mother is doing this to me! I'm like geez, mom, give me a chance to get to this point, THEN we'll worry about who buys what.

And I agree with your thinking that if you can buy the big ticket items when you catch them on sale that's better than risking paying full price later on, when money will really be at a premium.

I hope they back off soon for you!

I had the same problem!!!!! We bought the stroller, swing, bassinet and some little decorative items off Etsy and people flipped. Mostly my inlaws. I told them they're more than welcome to buy one of the millions of things off the registry! But I was not going to sit around and wait till the last minute to buy everything that people did not buy. I'd rather spend money over time than in one day! It was seriously annoying especially when we'd already sent out the registry info that had plenty of items on it He's OUR baby we are going to be excited and shop for him!

I totally agree! I have been getting the same kind of heat from my friends. There like "stop buying so much stuff, people want to buy you things". My thinking is the same way, if it's on sale and I want it, I'm probably gonna buy it so I don't get stuck paying full price for it later and kick myself. It's nobody's business what your finances are!!

Oh wow I'm sorry - for me that just sounds normal, you're the mom, you want to have the fun of buying stuff for your baby, especially if you can afford it and get great deals. I'll be the same way! I don't want anyone buying anything else than clothes and small useful items - maybe a few other things but I want to buy the big ticket items that will be in the nursery.

We went through the same thing, and nobody ended up having any problem finding things to buy for us in the end (and that is even with my sister not passing along our registry info on the shower invites.) It drove me nuts, too, but don't worry - just tell them they can go crazy at Christmas! LOL

While we haven't bought anything yet, we plan to buy all of the bigger items ourselves (except the crib, my parents are buying it for us - but we're picking it out). I'd rather spend the money myself to get exactly what we want than to have to go through the hassle of returning things later.

I'm sorry! My mom kept telling me to wait to buy too much until after the shower. I'd just remind her that we needed ALOT of stuff and that there would still be plenty for people to buy us. And of course i was right! We even had to go out after the shower and buy more stuff.

Oh yeah, i'm sure they won't be out making up for anything we don't get after the shower! Its not that i'm ungrateful by any means, i think you all know that, but i'm just so over being told what to do!

Ok, I'm in complete agreement (as I posted previously) about buying whatever you want to buy when you want to buy it, but I do have a question for some of you.

If you are registered for specific items (like a very specific crib, changing table, swing, etc.) why wouldn't you want someone else to buy this for you? I'm not asking this in a negative way...this is not a "are you crazy" type question LOL...I am genuinely curious what your reasoning is behind this. I know that for my brother and SIL they WANTED the crib bought for them, but by a specific person. My brother's best friend had said all along that when they had a baby he wanted to buy the crib and he did. Maybe it's something similar? Is it because you would like to be the ones to give your child his/her first bedroom set or something along those lines?

Or it is because you have family like mine that would say, "Well I couldn't find exactly what you wanted, so I got you this instead...and look, it's cheaper!" Because yes, this is precisely what my family would and will do.

The people who wanted to buy our big ticket items (my mom, sisters) did it well before the shower. I just let them know when it was on sale and they went and bought it. Maybe if they insist you can tell them when/where and then if they don't get it get it yourself. Then you at least gave them a chance. But I totally agree, we bought all the nursery items ourselves because I was NOT letting anyone get a chance to decorate her nursery. I wanted it done exactly how I wanted it done and no other way! Oh and as a sidenote, all the things I REALLY wanted people didn't end up getting off the registry, go figure! Not trying to sound rude or anything, we had a great shower and were so blessed and grateful for everything we got. But we ended up getting a million bath towels and clothes and not some of the stuff I really wanted like the boppy or bumbo. I actually wish the registries had a star system or something, like something you really want gets 5 stars while something you kinda want gets 1 star! LOL!

hahaha well Michelle, there isn't anything that anyone has specifically staked claims too. We bought our travel system on a whim b/c another girl from JM who lives near me PMd me to let me know it was an awesome deal, we went, they had one left, we bought it. I never even thought twice...it was $60 and they normally run $200ish. The PNP i bought was the one i wanted and it was on clearance at Target. I purchased it at the beginning of this month thinking, by the time my shower rolls around at the end of August this will be gone. Of course had my shower been closer i may have been more likely to chance it and see what happened. But as it was I saved $60 off of the store price so it was a deal i couldn't pass up and the pattern i wanted (neutral). If i had left it to chance more than likely it would have been gone and i'd have had to find something else or risked having someone else choose for me (not happening). Same story for the swing...they're just discontinuing the pattern i guess...idk?! Had I not taken advantage of those deals then i gamble if someone wants to spend that much on that gift and if not then i'm out the full purchase price now instead of the clearance price. So now i have what I want and the rest is up for grabs...I just pick up little things here and there and of course i wouldn't "mind" if someone else wanted to buy them, i just didn't feel like i was in a position to wait on those things.

As far as the furniture goes, we just went for it. It wasn't that we wanted to be the ones to buy our child's furniture but it was a responsibility we felt like we had...plus with this being our first I wanted to get the nursery going ASAP.

They have done the same thing to me in my family. I went a little crazy and bought some clothes for him when I first got out of school. I just told them that this is my son and I wanted him to have certain things. There are still plenty of things to get on our registry. Gosh, diapers, wipes, outfits, blankets, etc. I know they are excited but I am excited too and wanted to get him things Sometimes families do not think when they are expressing their feelings. So I say buy at will I love the name Tyler BTW. That is my brother's name
