I'm a ways away from Michael being ready for sippy cups (or am i?... you give them around a year right?) but i was trying to find bottles with handles because Michael LOVES to hold his bottle but can't quite grip them and it made me realize there are about 100000000 choices for sippy cups. Does anyone have a preference? Are there certain things you should look for in sippys?

Do you BF? I can't remember LOL - Some people go straight to sippy cups after BFing if they can't do it anymore. My GF did actually with her DS, at only about 4 months when she couldn't BF anymore because of a tooth problem (her, not baby) - he never even used bottles, only sippy cups. So it isn't unheard of to try sippy cups early!

You can also get some, I can't remember the brand but I got them at the baby shower - they're a "stages" sippy cup, with handles, that have both a nipple AND a sippy-attachment. That might be worth a try because then you only have to buy one type of cup, and can go from bottle (with handles) straight to sippy cup by just changing the nipple.

ETA: I just checked, its a Nuby sippy cup, and the sippy-nipple is a softer one to help them transition from nipple to sippy attachment. It's pretty light, too, and BPA free - probably worth a shot! GL!

I was just curious because of what happened to my GF's experience, apparently it isn't that hard to go straight from BFing to sippy cups with no bottles in between. Hope I didn't sound harsh or anything, I have the best intentions I promise! With Mikey doing so good lately, I'd almost forgotten about his early hospital stay (didn't mean to hurt feelings if I did, I promise!)

I'd definitely give the Nuby a try, that is the brand that nephew drinks out of (16 months) and he switched from bottle to sippy pretty easily with those because they have softer sippy attachments (plus they have the nipple attachment if you're not ready to try sippy cups!)

Good luck!

I ordered the Tommy Tippy cups from BRU (They are pretty much leak proof, dw safe, and they have handles) Camden can hold on to them and drink easily They also have a rubber mouth piece which is great for teething!

We went right to straw cups - started w/ this Honey Bear Cup with Straw to train her how to suck - took her a few days and now she drinks from a straw like a champ.

Forgot to add we BF - she gets a little water in the cup only when shes eating solids
(started @ 6 months).

we have and i'm not a fan. I just bought these to try because my niece really liked them. They are 3 for $5 by me and that's cheap!!

they say you can start introducing a sippy when you do solids...but more or less so they can get used to them. We will transition Bella around 11 months but I'm in no hurry

I too use the Nuby Straw cups and absolutely love them. I can't remember exactly when we started them, but I think around 6 months with just water. Paige could never figure out the other sippys because I think it was too much for her to figure out...tip the cup up...and hold it...and suck...too much. With the straw cups they don't have to tip them they can just sip away!! Just my thoughts!

We used the Nuby cups with silicone spouts too, we started at 4 months with expressed milk and skipped the bottle stage altogether.

Once they get to about 8 months the nuby cups are useless as Ana just poked everything available into the spout till she broke the valve and the water poured everywhere. (Her best thing to poke it with was her fork at mealtimes!)

Now we just use the Tommee tippee basic cups with handles and pop up spout.

We use Nuby straw cups too. I started with sippies around 4 months since my kids would not take a bottle. They didn't love them. As soon as I started with the straw cups we were good to go.

I hear people have a lot of luck with the nuby and advent. We are still trying sippys and cant seem to find one that Billy will take. He won't suck on the straw or anything witha valve. We need an old school sippy cup that just comes out and everything is leak/spill proof. We've tried taking out the valve on some but he usually just spits it out. Good luck!

I started giving my DD sippy cups when she was about 4 months (I breastfeed so it was mainly to get her used to a cup) - at first she just played with it and would pick it up and then eventually she figured out how to get it to her mouth. By 6 months old she was drinking well on her own from them, and now at 8 months she has no trouble with them at all.

We use Munchkin Mighty Grip and Nuby No Spill. She does great with both of them.
