Hey girls... so some of you may have read in my journal about how i'm not sure if 15 weeks 5 days is too early for a gender scan at a private place. well my pregnant friend is 15 weeks 4 days today and at her doc appt she begged the doc to give her an ultrasound to try to look which they did. well it was too early to tell her anything...
but my question is, do you think that a private place has a better sonogram machine than doctor offices? I know the one she uses isn't the one they can do the big anatomy scan so maybe it's because her machine isn't the greatest of quality?
So now i'm wondering if i should push back my appt if possible? do you guys think its possible that the private place has better machines? also kate, did you get it done right before 16 weeks or so?

Personally, I would wait. There is a chance they won't be able to tell...but it's your call.

my first one was at 15w 2d, and my second was at 16w5d. I think she could have seen better if she had zoomed in more the first time but that's just me. I'm not the expert. However they should tell you if they're not confident and dont' get the money shot and let you come back for free/cheap. I know my place does re-visits for $20 if your baby doesn't cooperate.
IDK that the gender place has better machines, its possible. But the other thing you have to remember is these people identify gender as their job. So it is what they do 15 times a day, 6 days a week...try not to worry to much Jess! What happened to me and so few others is just a rare occurrence. The girl who did mine was so shocked she was wrong...i believe it really doesn't happen to her very often.

A girl I worked with said she had an ultrasound done at 14wks 4 days and they accurately told her it was a boy. I was 16 weeks and 2 days when I found out we are having a girl. I really think it just depends on the place on if they will be able to tell. As far as with a private place the one who did mine first was private and my pictures are so much better compared to going through my doctors office.
I say just do whatever you feel is best.

Kate and Erica you guys make great points. Kate you know i can't stop worrying! If it's not one thing, it's another! but you made a great point that its what the person does for a living so i'm sure they're pretty good at it!!!

I think that I would wait a little longer before going to a private place. Good luck!

we did ours at about 15w 5 d at the dr. office and they were 99% sure it was a girl (i know a little harder to positively ID) and we have had a million u/s (it seems including 3d since then, and they all say the same. I guess we won't know officially for a few more weeks, but we are all pink now...good luck..i say go for it!

I would wait too. I know quite a few people IRL and from my DDC who went to find out early and found out the u/s was wrong when they went for their 3d or anatomy scan. But that's just me, I was super paranoid about scan not being accurate and waited till 21 weeks.

It was super obvious for me at 16 weeks. We went in to an elective place to find out a month early. I had googled for u/s pics of boys and girls so I would be able to tell how obvious it was. And I knew right away she was a girl, it was very clear. I did go in prepared to be told it was too early though.

It depends on the machine, the way it's calibrated, the person doing the u/s, and the way the baby is positioned. There is no guarantee either. My doctor was about 100% sure at 12 w that one of ours was a girl, but she told us not to go buy anything pink. At 17 w there was no question what gender they both were, partly because by then we knew they were identical, but also they gave us an amazing shot. Your baby is so tiny, but growing rapidly. I'd push the appointment by a week or two if you can just to make sure you get the shot you want.

I would suggest waiting a bit if you can, just so you won't be disappointed if they can't tell you or if they are wrong later. I went to an elective place at at 16 weeks and they couldn't tell (she was sleeping) and so I went back 2 days later, I had to pay again but got a $5 discount. And this time she was moving but they said they couldn't get a good shot. I just don't think the machine could zoom in or move as well as my other u/s. At 18 weeks I went for my anatomy scan and I was told 80% sure she was a girl. Then at 22 weeks, at a 2nd level u/s, was told 100% girl (and at my 28 week u/s she is still a she). With my experience the u/s machine at the elective place was not as good as the place I got my 18 week scan (imaging center, my doctor doesn't do them in her office). And of course the 2nd level u/s at the high risk office the u/s is even better. I remember being so bummed the first few times they couldn't tell, especially when I had told all my family and friends that we were finding out. That is just my experience, good luck to you Jess!
