Sigh. So I bought a nap nanny today and I am trying to decide if I want to keep it. The main reasons I am rethinking it are 1) the price. Buyer's remorse a little bit. 2) You aren't supposed to use it in a crib, which sort of defeats the purpose for me. Josie has reflux, and HATES her wedge. I don't really want her sleeping on the floor though (which she would be on the nap nanny, and you're also not supposed to use it at night anyway). She wakes up every 1-2 hours after her initial 3-4 hours of sleep (I assume she sleeps so long at first because she gets her Zantac before bed?) Anyway, the pedi suggested today I elevate her more than just the wedge, like putting a board under the crib mattress....and I have been considering the nap nanny for some time. But again, it's not meant for night sleeping or for crib sleeping. Also 3) with the harness, it's impossible to put her in it while swaddled. So even if I did break the rules and put her in it at night in her crib, she might startle herself awake because her arms would be loose.
She is sleeping in it comfortably right now, which is nice, but I wonder if a bouncer seat wouldn't achieve the same effect for daytime use? We have a little swing we have been putting her to lay in during the day, but she is getting too tall and is obviously uncomfortable in it. For the price of the nap nanny, I could get a large, upright swing and a bouncer seat....which also wouldn't help me at night, but neither would this...I'm so confused.
Do you ladies have any thoughts or input? Suggestions? Maybe I'll keep trying the wedge. I just don't know what to do.

I personally want one, even though they have been recalled. The price is a little much but they just seem like the best thing ever!! I know LeeAnn has one and loves it but i'm not sure about anyone else around here. As for elevating the mattress i have heard putting a rolled up towel or blanket under the mattress works well.
I'd be really leery of putting it in the crib though...that is one of the main reasons it was recalled is b/c it was in cribs, got tipped over and the child was caught between the seat and the bumper or the seat and the crib rails. Even though i know she's only 2 months old its still not something i'd feel comfortable with and like you said she could startle herself awake not being swaddled and who knows how much movement it takes to tip the thing...
Just my 2 cents on the issue. Hopefully that made some sense to someone besides me. Its been a long day!!

Yeah the recall wasn't because it got tipped, from what I read, the baby wiggled out of the harness and fell half out of it and suffocated on the crib bumper. Josie doesn't have bumpers on her crib (even though the bed set came with cute ones) because of risk of reducing the airflow in the crib.) It does look super comfy, but I'm thinking it's a lot to pay for basically a baby seat. It's really stupid that the harness only goes across the belly and not down the shoulders. I'm thinking they will release a new one with a shoulder harness, because it doesn't make sense to not have that. All baby products seem have the shoulder harness.
Then again, being nice and elevated during the day could possibly help at night maybe??? But then I'm back to the bouncy seat. Maybe I'll buy a bouncy seat too and see if she chills in it as comfortably as she's doing in the nap nanny...compare the two.

I've always heard wonderful things about it and for awhile i really wished i had bought one because i wasn't getting much sleep. It does stink that you can't use it in the crib but if it were me i'd stick with that instruction just to be safe.

I responded in the DDC thread too but yes, Julie has one and we love it. I know Bella (Lyz's daughter) has one too. Personally, I'm glad I bought it. We use ours like a recliner/seat, she doesn't sleep in it but she hates her bouncy seat with a passion.
We don't exactly follow the directions....we don't buckle her in unless she is on the counter top or on the table and we are a few feet away from her. For example, when I need to wash her bottles....I will put her on the counter in the nap nanny - buckle her - and wash dishes while we talk. Dh does the same but will put her on the table instead of the counter. When it's on the couch or on the table while we are eating we don't buckle her in BUT we are right next to her watching her.
If you already bought it, I'd take it out put a blanket over it and let Josie sit/nap in it and see how she likes it. If she doesn't like it or it doesn't work, then take it back.

That's interesting that Julie hates her bouncy seat. Maybe before I return it, I should get a nice bouncy seat and try that too. Spending more for something she will use over spending less for something she refuses to sit in makes sense to me. I did have her in it yesterday(on a blanket of course) and she seemed to like it. But she was lethargic and groggy from her shots, so that may not be the best indicator.

Not sure what it is about it (the bouncer), but she has been in it for probably a total of 10 minutes since being born and even that might be stretching it. It is one expensive piece of foam though. And an extra cover will cost you a kidney!

I was interested in your post and although I don't have any advice to give, I was also going to purchase one while my ex-husband and I were going through TTC. I posted a link to another discussion where the ladies were talking about it being a glorified piece of foam but those that bought it advised it did help. Although when I put in Google "Nap Nanny Alternatives" over 1.8 million hits came up so it is defiantly something people have tried to figure out, most point out using a car seat or bouncy seat. I know that when I took care of my nephew he would sleep more soundly in his car seat than anything else.
Since the Nap Nanny is already $130 I did find something neat on the Fisher Price website, it is a 4 piece convertible set that can be switched from swing to highchair to a reclined type chair to a sitting chair (when old enough). Just a thought.

We too have a nap nanny. Connor still uses his for sleeping. We always use it on the floor and I really don't have a problem with that. It's like his own little bed so I don't feel like he's sleeping on the floor, I just feel like he's sleeping in his bed. We also NEVER buckle him in. He's fallen out 2 or 3 times but since he's already on the floor he didn't really fall anywhere and can't get hurt. I've read to many stories of babies that are buckled in dangling over the side so I'd rather he end up on the floor than dangle. It's worked out well for us so far.
They do recommend it for sleeping until the infant can sit up on their own. Connor is sitting but we're still using it (always on the floor and unbuckled). I don't really see a point in spending that much money if you're only going to use it in the daytime.
That being said, I don't know that I would buy one again. It didn't work magic for us like some of the reviews said. I actually don't know that it makes him sleep any better then without one. He does have very severe reflux and needed to sleep elevated and this was the only solution we could come up with. He was always sliding down when we tried to elevate his mattress.
Also their customer service is VERY POOR. When they recalled their product they only offered a partial credit for a new nap nanny when you turned in your old one. It would have ended up costing me $50 more to return mine. This really made me upset. I mean, I bought a nap nanny because I figured I'd continue to use it with more kids. It's expensive enough as it is! Any other baby item that's been recalled has been replaced or fixed with no cost to me at all. I think they know people won't return their old model for replacement if it's going to cost that much. And, it can't be that expensive for them to make in the first place. I just don't know if I can recommend a company that doesn't 100% stand by their product if there's a problem with it. I know there's alot of talk from consumers about needing a harness instead of just a lap belt so who knows if they will be recalled again because of kids still dangling over the side.
So, I guess there are pros and cons. Bottom line for me: I wouldn't buy one unless absolutely necessary.

Bella used it from about 3 months until 5 months. I wish I had it sooner!!! my sister let me borrow hers to try it out and it worked wonderfully with us at night. I did use it in her crib, but she didn't have bumpers in and we put one side of it up against the rail so if she fell, it would be only one way and she wouldn't suffocate. (she slept like the dead in it and never moved until one morning, when she was 5 months old, I went in and she was asleep sideways on it! That was the end of it for us!)
If you already bought it, keep it! Seriously, give it a try. It has helped my sister's baby too (she's 5 months now). She has horrific reflux and literally can't keep anything down. This helps her sleep better at night and not throw up. She is just now transitioning her out of it because she can roll over.
I was upset about not swaddling Bella anymore either (we were swaddled her from day one). The first night was a rough transition for her but she was fine the next night. It actually helped, I think, breaking that swaddling battle that I was trying to avoid
I plan to use it again for the next baby too!
oh and I HATE the wedge. Bella would roll down it like a slide haha

Wanted to add that Cam LOVES his bouncer, always has! We don't let him sleep in it though (even though i'm sure he would love to. LOL) Every baby is definitely different
