I woke up this morning and when I went to the bathroom my underwear was full of blood I don't know what to do.. I'm thinking whether I should go to the ER.. I know they can't DO anything, but they'd do an ultrasound and a beta to see what's going on.
This is TMI but I also passed a dime sized clot. I'm so upset I've been bawling for the last hour. I put a pad on and there hasn't been much blood for the last half hour.

UPDATE:
Thanks so much for your kind messages.
Just to update - I went to ER. My hcg had risen appropriately (to 34,000 from 14,000 4 days ago) so the doc was optimistic, but the transvaginal U/S only showed a gestational sac measuring 6.5 weeks and no embryo The doc said they really should have seen a fetal pole - it might be a blighted ovum.

He said most likely it's a miscarriage but I'm going back on Monday for another beta and if the HCG is still going up, then they'll do another U/S in a week or so.

I am really not optimistic - with my HCG numbers they should have seen the fetal pole. Oh and the bleeding is coming from between the placenta and uterus so I don't even think that has anything to do with it being a blighted ovum (I say this because the hcg is still going up).

Oh another thing is the u/s tech said I have a retroverted uterus He had a hard time getting some of the pics.

I'm really devastated right now.
The bleeding is only when I wipe. But I don't have much hope if there's no embryo

It's really depressing when the triage nurse asks if this is my first pregnancy and I tell her no, then she asks if I have any living children and again I have to say no

Definitely get to the hospital or at least call your doc. Are you having cramps with the bleeding? I will definitely keep you in my prayers!

It's probably best if you go. They may not be able to do anything, but at least they can tell you what is happening.

here's the thing....I have heard 4 other girls here say at just about the 6 week mark that they have a heavy bleed and think they are miscarrying (including me) and everyone has turned out just fine, so here's to hope!!! Especially if you aren't bleeding anymore.

fingers crossed!!!!

Judy - did you go to the hospital?? Any update?

It could be anything - not neccessarily a miscarriage. Please update when you can.

Praying for you Judy. I'm another one who thought I was having a m/c at about 5 weeks and everything turned out okay. I really hope this is the case for you.

Just FYI i have heard/seen stories of girls who have a tilted uterus and they had a hard time getting a pic...days later there was baby! I really really hope you get good news Judy!! The good news is your sac was measuring on track and your HCG has gone up so that's something to be happy about!

No! This is not happening I was doing research a while ago and read about sooo many misdiagnosed blighted ovums all because the view was obscured because of a retroverted uterus. I am praying with everything I have that this is the case

Judy - Please don't give up hope yet. I agree with everyone here who has said that it is possible to misdiagnose a blighted ovum. A friend of mine just had a little girl whom she was told was a blighted ovum. She went in for an early ultrasound 6-7 weeks and was told she would miscarry. She spent 2 weeks waiting for it to happen and crying about it only to find out at her next ultrasound that the baby was fine, measuring right on track with a healthy heartbeat. It can happen! We will all be hoping and praying your story has a similar happy ending!
