I haven't started yet (obviously), but many have suggested buying some used ones, or one or two of each brand to figure out which ones you like. I was looking on Ebay the other day and there are tons to choose from.

We cloth diaper full time and really like fuzzibunz.
I would recommend buying either pockets or all-in-ones to start out with. They are by far the easiest to use. Then you can venture out and try other things. The most popular brands are usually bumgenius and fuzzibunz. They are pretty similar, so really it's just personal preference which one you like better. I couldn't get the bumgenius to fit my son as well as the fuzzibunz so that's why I bought fuzzibunz, but some people find the opposite for their kids. Try buying one of each and see which one you like.
Recently I discovered TKCuddlers all-in-ones and those are by far my favorite because of the trimness. But, they are custom made so you have to wait for her to have a slot before you can by some.

Fuzzibunz world is having a sale (plus free shipping over $25) so I bought 1 of the perfect size and some soaker pads to try out - it seems to be cheaper that way not having to pay shipping.
Anyone use gdiapers? I'm kind of curious about them since they can be used as a disposable. They sell them locally so I might go pick up one of those $30 starter kits.

I absolutely love my BestBottoms. I gave up using all my other cloth diapers after trying those. I have Thirstie covers and Bum Genius 3.0 sittiing around the house that we never use. I need to sell at least the Thirsties.
Buying a few used ones and seeing what works is a great idea. That way you can find out waht you do or don't like. I personally hate stuffing the BG 3.0 and have an issue with stinkies in their inserts. I don't get stinkies in any other inserts I use.

I'm so glad to hear you say this. I just bought 16 newborn sized (used) for $100. They seem so tiny! The lady I bought them from absolutely loved them and is still using the larger ones for her baby now.

I looked at best bottoms and they look easy. I might order one of those too.
I searched gdiapers on here and saw they weren't highly recomended.

I've heard mixed reviews about Gdiapers but I've personally never tried them so I don't know for sure. I think you can probably find something better out there that's similar. The flip system is a hybrid system that does make a disposable insert (I think they're on back order right now though). They are probably a better choice. We have some flips and like them but I just think most of the time it's just easier to grab a pocket or all-in-one.
Cloth diapering was intimidating to me at first so I was looking for something easy to use. Now that I'm getting more used to it and feeling more confident, I'm more willing to try new things.
Another thing to ask yourself is why you want to cloth diaper. If it's to be more ecofriendly then you might make different choices than if your primary reason is to save money or even if your reason is to keep natural fibers on your child.
Also, you might look into something like this: https://www.momsmilkboutique.com/ClothDiaperTrial.html
You put down a deposit, they give you a sample of a bunch of different types of cloth diapers. You try them out for 30 days and return everything you don't want. You get all your money back for everything you don't minus a small fee. My friend did this and it really helped her narrow down which type of cloth diaper she like so she could go from there and try out the different brands.
Feel free to ask any questions you want. It's overwhelming at first!

We CD.
My faves have been that we've traded are:
SmartiPants, BumGenius Organics- now called Elementals I believe and BumGenius pockets with a Super-Do insert for night time. We like the BumGenius All in ones for when they are tiny as OneSize doesn't fit newborns too well.
I want to try the BestBottoms Valerie, are they really awesome?

We use only FuzziBunz and love them! A friend of mine uses BumGenius and she has the velcro kind. The velcro on her diapers looks awful and she hadn't even used them a year! I highly recommend snaps because of how tattered and gross the velcro gets. A friend of mine did a diaper trial and she loved it. She ended up using a lot of different types like Econobum, Groviva, and she does have a few G-diapers that she likes. There is a cloth diapering board you might want to check out. Good luck!

They are awesome! They are standing up really well in the wash too. I am a little biased though because they are made close to here and I can go to Nicki's diapers and pick them up. Nicki's is amazing and will try just about every diaper on your child so you can make sure they fit. I had an issue finding a diaper that fit my long skinny kids. This one is perfect for them, but I know moms with chunky kids that use them too. I think with the snaps and leg gussets you're able to get a good fit no matter what. We have no issues with the night inserts, but I do know one person who has a super heavy wetter who couldn't use the inserts at night until he was a little older, eating some solids and nursing a little less at night.
As for Flips, I know someone who swore by them. She used them for a year, but they aren't holding up in the wash. I recently got her to try a BestBottom and she's converting her stash.

The reason that I want to give it a try (no matter how stupid you think my reasoning is...you don't have to say it ) is:
1. Julie poops all over the changing table, so I'm always cleaning up poop. Even when we wait to make sure she is finished, right when we take off the diaper, she poops. Never fails. So what's the difference of me cleaning if off a diaper vs. the towel on the changer.
2. I'm tired of the diaper rash cream. I'm paranoid she will get a rash, so we apply at every change.
3. We buy mostly the 7th generation which are a green diaper, so why not go all the way.
4. We are constantly doing laundry, so what is a few more loads.
5. Interested in the cost savings.
It may not work for me, but I want to try it out. Of course, I can only do it part time cause the daycare will not cd.

Thanks awesome, thanks! Hmm...Zane's a super heavy wetter at night and even with a super-do insert in his BG's he wakes up soaked even his clothes/bed...so do you think the night inserts would or wouldn't work for him? I'm sick of washing sheets every day!

You definitely need to try a few and see what works for your LO, because a PP here said they love Fuzzibunz and don't like bumGenius and I'm the completely opposite. I have 2 FB that never get used. I have about 12 BG AIO Organics (like L said, now called Elementals) and about another dozen BG 4.0s, a few 3.0s. I also love my TKCs, but I have larges that fit DD, but they're a little big (but suuuuuper cute). I also love my Flips, I have about 10 stay dry inserts and 5 organics. Love the organics. I also love Rumparooz (as you can see I'm mostly a pocket person). I have 1 Thirsties but it's a size 2 and a little big right now. I love my Swaddlebees and Blueberry, but they're a little more expensive. And a couple Happy Heiney's too. (I have a diaper buying problem).
As far as cheap pockets go....I love my Nubunz ones. I find them similar to BG. Lots of people on the CD board love Kawaii too, but I hated them. I found them similar to the fit of FB.
I know most people on the CD board don't like the gdiapers (I think Krista just started using them). You can also get disposable inserts to use with the Flips if you want. They sell a day pack, 2 covers and 6 inserts for $50 (stay dry) or $60 (organic).
Sorry, that was really allllll over the place LOL

I'm not sure. We've never had a night leak with their inserts.

I've been CDing since Savannah was 5 days old....
My favs now (we used homemade nb ones when she was lil) are BumGenius 3.0& 4.0 for out and about - GoodMamas w/ Thirsties covers for at home. At night I put an extra doubler in the GoodMama and she never leaks.
I use Rockin Green for detergent.
I have some Nubunz as well - but they're the last ones I reach for - Idk why - I guess they don't feel as well made as BumGenius. I also have some Kiwis that I finally like the fit of on her. Piddle Poddles are good as well - they're very similiar to GoodMama. I have one TKC too - but I've never even put it on her - LOL I should probably try it out already...
Sorry my post is all over the place lol

I've been CDing for a month? maybe just under.
I had sized FB's and didn't care for the fit on Ashton.
I sold them all and now I only have BG Elementals and one BG 4.0...

I'm still kind of learning....I have no idea what pockets are or even if I bought the right inserts for fuzzibunz. I looked at the TKCuddlers site, but when it comes to making your own - specifying what you want - I have no idea. I don't know what a PUL is...I have no idea what a flip diaper even looks like...I'm clueless but trying to figure it out.
I did see your post Christine about the blueberry & swaddlebees irregulars clearance and I saw Krista was not thrilled with the gdiapers (I think her post said she returned them). And I did see your FSOT post yesterday TAM as I was trying to comb through the cd board - and I saw the fits of cds on Ashton.
I'll get there though but it will probably be just a trial and error as I'm sure it was for many of you.
