For those who have weaned from BF or are in the process I'd love to hear how it went or how it is going!

I'm not planning on weaning Billy right now but he is almost 11 months old and I'd like to hear how it went for others. He JUST figured out how to drink out of straw sippy cup but hasn't taken any BM out of it yet. I'm still going to nurse him on my lunch however he is only nursing for a very short time (like 30 seconds to 2 minutes). Its a struggle to get him to slow down to take the time to nurse all of a sudden. (he is also teething - just got 1st tooth and 2nd one is one the way - but he was doing this before that as well) I'm thinking its normal, however he can only nurse at that time. He nursers 3-4 times before 8am (middle of the night included) and then I get to nurse him around 12:10 and then when I get home from work around 4. He cluster feeds until bed and nurses for at least 30 minutes before he goes to sleep. I'm wondering if he is going to drop a nursing session (the lunch time one). However it worries me that he'd go from from 8-4 w/o drinking if I stopped going. Thoughts?

Guess I should say also that he won't eat baby food - but anything he can feed himself he will eat. He also loves cheese, yogurt, chicken, applesauce, etc. He is also very small for his age (under 3% for weight) so I dont want to not leave to nurse him at lunch if he wants/needs it but I know I can't do it forever. Sorry this got so long! Thanks for any input!

Zane pretty much self weaned at 18 months, though we did try to help the process a bit with bottles of milk as I got prego with #2 when he was 12m and I know that affected my supply and BFing while prego hurt, it was so painful- I'd be in tears every nursing session. DH could tell I was in pain and we decided it would probably be best to cut down his nursing sessions. As he was nursing every 2-3hrs, so I decided he'd get BM when he woke up, after breakfast, before nap, after nap and before bed. (or it was something like that) So I stuck to that schedule, if he asked for BM anytime other than that I'd distract him with a toy or some juice or water or a snack, sometimes didn't work and he'd have a fit, which wasn't easy. But that's how we started it. Just trying to make sure he was getting enough to eat and drink from other means other than BM since I was cutting down his BFing times.

Zane wouldn't take BM or milk in a sippy cup only a bottle, so that's what we did. We knew he wasn't getting enough after I got prego so we decided to slowly introduce milk and we also decided it was time to put him in his own bed in his own room. So we would give him a bottle of milk at night before bed. Then after a few months we decided it was time to cut out the middle of the night feedings- as being prego I needed more sleep and the pain from BFing him was excruiating. DH slept in Z's room for the weekend to comfort him whenever he'd wake up and hten put him back to bed. It took 3 days but after Z was finally sleeping through the night for the first time at 15m and he wasn't BFing either. So after that we decided to introduce a morning bottle of milk with his breakfast. After a few days of the bottles of milk he slowly would naturally cut out more nursing sessions...as the bottle of milk filled him up and he wasn't interested and then he kept naturally cutting out each feeding and wasn't interested in BFing. So that's how it went down for us.

A&E aren't weaned, we actually haven't started that. I'm trying to let them self wean. They do take BM out of a sippy and a regular cup if I am not around. They both eat solids very well, but are at the lower % of the scale. They are holding steady at about 3 and 6%, so we aren't worried since that seems to be where their bodies want to be.

By 11 months neither of them was eating any baby food. I think they'd stopped most baby food by 10 months. If he's ready then there is no need to push the baby food. He'll get the same nutrition of out real food cut up. There are days here and there that it can be a struggel to get them to eat. On days like that I sometimes put their food on my plate and feed it to them. They won't let me feed them food off of their trays, but if they think it's mine then they will sometimes take it from me. They are usually eating what I eat, so it isn't an issue.

If you're concerned about his fat intake, just make sure he gets plenty of good fats like olive oil and avocado. We just recently started almond butter and they love it.

Thanks so much ladies - I really appreciate your responses!

Today when I went to nurse him at lunch he nursed twice and for a decent amount of time so who knows! I'm not ready to wean him yet but am always interested to hear other experiences.
