.. not because it hurt, but because it lead to a high blood pressure reading, twice; and them seeing my swollen ankle. This then lead to a trip to the hospital office where they checked my blood pressure for a 3rd time (still high) and found protein in my urine. Now i have to do a 24 hour urine catch and go for bloodwork. oh yippee. i just wanted the flu shot!!

Oh yikes!!!! I have heard flu shots can affect some people. That's why I dont want to take the risk. I am kinda allergic to flu shots cuz when I was growing up, I ALWAYS got really really sick with flu every spring break literally until high school I told my mom I didnt want the flu shot, then I never got the flu since then.

And Aaron Nicole I was just like you! I got two flu shots in college and each time I got bronchitis within a week or two of getting it. I haven't gotten one since then but I did this year since I'm pregnant. I just made sure that after I got it I stayed away from crowds for about a week. I think for me it was more that it lowered my immune system enough that I was susceptible to any germ within a mile of me!

I really don't think the shot caused the high bp. The swollen ankle was probably the sign that you've been having high bp. High bp + protein in urine is a complication of some pregnancies and has nothing to do with flu shots.
I'm sorry you are going through this!! Hope it turns out ok!

oh i know the flu shot didn't cause all this, i'm just annoyed that all i was supposed to get was a simple flu shot and ALL this occured instead. I mean obviously its a good thing that they noticed and can now monitor me but its just super annoying, esp to have to collect my pee!

Normally i NEVER volunteer for a shot, but my OB recommended it and i'm not going to go against the expert you know? I go for some blood work tomorrow after my 24 urine catch and then on tuesday i go for the results. The most related thing is preeclampsia, which as much research as i have done, i'm really not sure WHAT it is exactly. And is it something you have and monitor? or is it something you have all of a sudden and its time to panic? i need to google some more.

I hope that you don't have Pre-E. Look at it this way, if not for going in for the flu shot, you might not have been diagnosed for a while. It may have been a life saver!
