My mom is having Christmas dinner at her house and that's when we want to tell the family we're expecting! We'll have a pic from our U/S on Dec 13th, and even though I'll be only 2 months along, we thought it would be the best time to tell everyone!
So, I want to make my own Christmas Crackers and put a pic of our U/S inside Has anyone here ever made their own? There are tons of sights online that tell you how, just wondering how easy/hard it is? And where would I buy the stuff for it? We do have a great craft store I will try but any advice you can give is appreciated!

I am impressed Tammy! I've never thought about making my own crackers before. Let me know how it turns out and I may try next year. Don't forget the paper hats!

Okay - don't quote me on my history. This is originally an English tradition (started sometime in the 1700s I think). Each dinner guest gets a cracker. The crackers usually contain a paper hat, a joke, and a small toy. It's really fun - plus when you pull them apart they make a bang!
I know that this tradition isn't very common in the US. The tradition has definitely been carried over into Canada. We even brought some with us when we went to Cuba for Xmas one year!

OHHHHHH I know exactly what they are. I would check Michaels or Joanns (if you have those up there). Any craft store I am sure has one. But what a cute idea!

im making some! they should be pretty easy. im not putting in the snap thing that makes the popping noise because of DD but i know i vve seen them in my craft shop. wow i cant believe some of you have never heard of them!!
Im saving up all our toilet paper rolls (lol) putting the necessary bits inside and will roll christmas wrapping paper around them. Leave a couple of inches extra on each side past the cardboard tube when you roll the paper round it, then tie the ends with ribbon. Really really easy.
maybe you could put some pregnancy/baby related jokes in them? Have fun!

Woohoo! I went to Michael's and found a kit that has everything in it! So, inside at Christmas will be hats and instead of a toy, will be a pic of our lil P in the pod!!!

I LOOOOVE Christmas Crackers!!!!!
I used to make my own all the time when we were kids! we would hand them out to our friends with candy canes inside and a bouncy ball or something.
We used paper towel rolls (cut to size) just because toilet paper rolls creep me out (toilet germs LOL) I am sure you can buy the snappers at a craft store but we never used them.
I used tissue paper (or crete paper if they sell it there) as I find tissue/crete paper breaks easier than regular wrapping paper but i'm sure anything is fine! We also tied with ribbon or curling ribbon.

oh yeah I forgot we used to use crepe paper too! The paper I used is pretty thin so should break easily
