My SIL is 24 years old, and one of those people who thinks that rules don't apply to her. She does stupid things and NEVER has any consequences for them. I won't get into everything she has done because it would be very long.

She is a nurse. It took her 6 years to get her bachelor's degree in nursing because she kept making not the smartest decisions and bouncing around from school to school without making sure all her credits would transfer first. Anyway, after FINALLY starting to work as a nurse 6 months ago, she does this:

Her sister, my other SIL, who is 20, got laser hair removal and was complaining that her legs hurt. So the nurse SIL STEALS morphine and an IV bag from her hospital to give to her. 1- OMG you can't do that! Morphine is a controlled substance and she could really get into a lot of trouble! 2- She probably had to sign it out for a patient and that patient didn't get it and was in pain, which is cruel! 3- Her sister is on antidepressant medication and she is not a doctor or pharmacist and could have really hurt her if she gave her the wrong dose! Luckily she sucks at starting IVs and couldn't get it going so her sister was ok. But she thinks this isn't a big deal! She has such a history of doing things like this and there are never any consequences, I told DH that maybe she should get caught and really get into trouble for this because she will never change unless something like that happens. DH works in a hospital and he is livid with her. I just really can't stand how her life has been so privileged and she never has to answer for any of the bad things she does, whenever she gets into trouble her Mom usually just throws money at the problem to make it go away (she is very well-off). It just makes me so mad!

That is really scary! I hope she does get caught because I wouldn't want her to be my nurse if that's what she's doing.

Wow that is scary. I don't see how she wouldn't get caught though. If she doesn't, that sort of is even scarier to think about the health care system.

wow that is unacceptable! I would totally not blame you (and i would do it myself) if you put in an anonymous call. maybe a little reality check would do the girl some good.

I know girls, this is really bad! She works in the transplant unit. What's horrible is that she thinks it was ok to do this and says me, DH, and her mom are being dramatic for thinking its a big deal. DH works for a hospital and looked it up, if she gets caught not only does she lose her job and her license, but she would be charged with larceny and get up to 4 years in jail! That's the only reason DH doesn't want to report it anonymously, as horrible as this is he just can't bear the thought of sending his sister to jail. But, in all likelihood they will catch her. You have to sign that stuff out with your badge so they know who was signing out the morphine the day it was stolen.

What's really horrible is her attitude. She has always pushed the limits.. She smoked in middle school, drank in high school and actually had a "minor in consumption" ticket that her parents paid to get taken off her record, smoked pot in college, has driven with alcohol in her system multiple times and joked about it... and nothing ever happens to her. She thinks rules don't apply to her and because there has never been any consequences for her actions, she doesn't think there ever would be! Her reasons for doing this are basically to show off how cool she is that she's a nurse, like look at me I'm so cool I can give morphine to my sister. Her mom googled the drug interactions and told her she could really have hurt her sister, and her response was, "this is so dramatic, don't google morphine and tell me how to do it I give this drug every day and I know what I'm doing". Girl, you are NOT a doctor, you administer the drug but you have no right to be basically prescribing it for someone!!!! Ugh.

Still she committed a crime and justice needs to be served. Im' with sota... I'm scared about the health care!!!!!!!!!!! OMG it could happen anywhere... do you really want her to jeopardize other patients' lives? I'm sure if she got caught, the judge will go easy on her since its' her first crime... most cases the sentence gets reduced and do community service and spend sometime in jail or not. It depends on judge.

That is so scary. The fact that she is so lackadaisical about her job and patient care terrifies me. It makes me wonder how careful she is when she's treating patients. I agree that she may need a big scare to straighten out. I hope that when that does happen that she learns from it.

wow, but i can understand your dh because i have a brother that has been in the system and it's not easy on parents and lawyers cost alot! if she gets caught, she could be charged with a drug offense (i don't know your penal code) and that would ruin her career!

OK not to creep you out but I just realized I totally went to elementary school with your husband!! I was a year or two behind him. But I don't know his sisters at all or anything (or even him since 6th grade) so please don't get worried or delete this post out of fear! I would have just PMd you but I thought that might have come off as even more creepy hahaha. Feel free to PM me though!

Anyway, your SIL sounds nuts. In fact they both do. First of all, I don't understand why someone would risk their career for something so stupid! I am sure having laser hair removal might hurt, but the SIL who had it needed to call her own doctor who I'm sure would have given her pain meds. Aside from that, morphine sounds extremely over the top for what I'm assuming feels like a bad sunburn. They both seem like they have some issues.

My SIL is also crazy but in completely different ways. She used to live with us and brought a cat home while I was pregnant without asking. We told her it needed to go because she never even asked us, and her parents (DH's parents) freaked out on us like we were insane for not accepting an unwanted animal into our home and came over right away, 10 o'clock at night, and moved her out! hahaha. Your in-laws are probably 10-o'clock-cat-movers when it comes to your SILs, aren't they?

whoa, that's really dangerous. tell your other SIL not to accept random meds from her. IV morphine is usually used IN THE HOSPITAL so that if you stop breathing, someone will notice it.

I'm a nurse and I'm absolutely horrified at this! I could never do that to one of my patients and the transplant unit too! They have so much pain! If you decide you do want to tell someone you can contact your state board of nursing or her nurse manager. That is really scary. Makes me wonder what she will end up doing next or who she will hurt with that kind of nursing practice. It really makes me angry because nurses like that give all of us a bad name
