I'm sure this has been asked before but I'm debating on what kind of carrier to get... a baby bjorn style carrier or a sling carrier. BTDT mommies what kind did you have and what advice can you give me? Recommendations on brands would be great too.
Right now I feel like a sling would be great for a small baby and the carrier would be good for an older baby that can hold his head up and wants to face forward and see the sights... maybe I should get both?
Thanks in advance!

Personally, I hated my sling carrier. I used it a few times and packed it away. I made myself a Moby and loved it. I still periodically use it when I have a grumpy baby. I liked the Moby because I could wear a baby in multiple positions. After the moby, we got an Ergo and then we bought a second one. We love our Ergos. We wear the kiddos everywhere. I take care of my 2 year old nephew and 4 year old niece. I didn't want to buy a triplet stroller, so when we go places, I put the 2 year old and one of my girls in the stroller and Ergo the other baby. When I go shopping, I almost always wear one and put one in the cart. There are other great carriers like Beco. I think you can forward carry a baby in the Beco. In the Ergo, you can wear a baby on your front, but not facing forward.
We have 2 Bjorns that we need to sell. We only used them a couple times. They were not nearly as comfortable as the Moby and neither child liked riding in it as much.

I had a Baby Bjorn and loved it. I loved having her close to my chest when she was itty bitty and she loved facing outward when she got a bit bigger. And it was just super easy to put on and take off.

I had an Ergo and a Babyhawk mei tai. I hated the Ergo, the buckles and overall how it felt plus Julie didn't seem to care for it. Thought I'd try a mei tai version so I got a babyhawk and it didn't work for us. The style of it was a little more comfortable, but Julie hated that thing cause she was always facing me and she couldn't look around so she'd last about 2 minutes in it before she whined. I thought she'd do pretty good in it cause she was older but nope.
Hope you find one you like.

I just got 2 different slings to try out. We haven't had much occasion to use either of them yet. My SIL is buying us a carrier for when he's older (I'm not sure which one, she was really excited about 1 brand and won't tell me which one it is. I hope we like it).
ETA: one of our problems is that I'm a size S and DH is a XXL. It's really hard to find brands that will fit both of us. Make sure you look into that too.

I have a Moby and love it! We also have a Baby K'tan which I like because it doesn't drag the ground and have a lot of wrapping involved. We also have an Infantino carrier which is similar to the Baby Bjorn but we don't care for it since it's hard to get her in and out. I really want a Beco and a lot of girls in my PR have them and like them. I'm a little baby carrier obsessed

I suggest you try on some carriers before buying one if you can. If you have a cloth diaper store or some sort of "crunchy" mom store there, they might have carriers for you to try. I know there are a few places like that here.

I have a wrap, a baby bjorn and an Ergo. Of all three, I loved the bjorn the best. Bella didn't care to be in the Ergo and I wasn't comfortable with the wraps. I agree with Val that you should try some on before you buy.

We have a bjorn-style carrier and I hate it. Too many straps to figure out. It's like a freaking puzzle. Last month my husband finally figured it out and she LOVES it, but I still can't understand it. Even if I could, you have to adjust the straps to fit the body of the person wearing it. DH is 6'5" and I'm 4'11", so we can't both wear the same settings. I still might buy myself a moby wrap.

I have a Moby, Ergo and Baby Hawk (mei tai).
I loved the moby when she was a newborn - it was my go to.
Now - I love the Ergo I will occasionally use the Baby Hawk too but I prefer the ease of the Ergo.

I loveeeeee my beco and so does dd. She will cry for a minute or two but then always falls asleep. When she was smaller, at home i would use the Sleepy Wrap (similar to a moby), which I found to be more comfortable around the house. the beco i keep in the car and use it when we are out and about. I agree with the pps who said to try out if you can, there is a store near me that I got to try out the beco and ergo and then decide. Prior to that I did have a bjorn but it hurt my shouldar the first time, so I looked into other carriers and that is how I found about the ergo and the beco.
