The ultrasound showed that Liam has
an SUA- Single Artery Umbilical Cord aka 2 vessel cord
and
an EBF- Echogenic Bowel (focal) aka bright bowel
They are soft markers for genetic problems most commonly down syndrome. But my NT scan showed almost no chances of downs or t-18 soo that could be good cause sometimes the EBF resolves itself and the SUA ends up meaning nothing, but it could be bad cause there could be a different problem. And if nothing else it can also lead to IGUR - growth restriction.
I have to call in the morning to make an appointment with a genetisist to get more information, and discuss testing and prenatal care. Honestly Im not that worried, right now I just want more information, but Liam will probably be fine. One problem though is going to be the costs and what our crappy insurance will and will not cover. We aren't poor but we aren't rich and this stuff can get expensive.
So for now T&P's appreciated for Liam's health and our financial situation and Ill KUP
Also if anyone has any positive stories about SUA and EBF I wont mind hearing those
Thanks

Oh Becky, Im sorry that you're going through this. At work I have to attend all c-sections and we get quite a few babies who have two vessel cords that the mom and doctor didn't even know about! So it definitely doesn't always lead to problems. I dont know anything about EBF, though. I hope it turns out to be nothing though.
I will be praying for you, your hubby, and little Liam. I'm here if you need to talk! KUP.

I agree with the 2 vessel thing the one girl said. Half the time the doctors don't know and it's not an issue. I had IUGR with Kylie and they just monitored me very closely. I had two ultrasounds per week. Definitely definitely keep track of his kicking. He should kick at least 10x a day minimum. As far as the bright bowel I'm not sure. I suggest doing a search on JM in general and see of anyone else dealt with it. It sounds like he is ok (based on NT scan and such). KUP

I know that a couple of the moms in my DDC had 2 vessels in their cords and had no problems. I'm sure you'll get more answers at your appointment with the geneticist.

update
So I talked to the doctor and I was wrong about which was echogenic, it's actually the heart. So that is an EIF. I think that's actually better.
Also we scheduled with the geneticist for monday at 9 am.

Every case of echogenic bowels i've seen on JM has turned out to be nothing...i'm sure they'll just keep an eye on him for now.
As for the umbilical cord, you're in good company with this group and small babies. I wasn't ever diagnosed with a condition but my son stopped growing his last 4 weeks in the womb...he didn't gain at all from 33-37 weeks and was the size of a 35-37 weeker at birth @ 38w5d. Again they can watch for IUGR and will deliver him if they feel he isn't benefitting from being in the womb anymore. I do hope that your insurance will cooperate...a lot of times you have to fight, but you can win. Hang in there, i know its scary any time they tell you anything could be wrong.

I will keep you and your baby in my T&P and hope that everything will be just fine. From what it sounds from others experiences that it tends to turn out to be nothing serious.
