Sydney seems to be picking up a lot of words lately, she seems to be slower in the talking department but it is def getting better.
Her new and most favorite word is yellow, she LOVES to say yellow and anything that is yellow she is sure to tell you so LOL......other new words......blue (she is into colors lately), shoes, fish, boo (as in I scared ya, Boo LOL), juice, ava (a little girl in her class), Syd (she learned to say her name LOL) and apparently thank you per her teacher although she doesn't say it at home??? she says please at home but not thank you, stinker!!!.....those are her newest words and then she has all the others she has been saying for a while.

cohen's newest phrase is "-insert name- hit me" it drives me nuts because no one hit him but he has been getting in trouble lately for hitting us when he's mad and he hears us say "dont hit me"...i think it really started when one of the dogs knocked him down and he said "tuffy hit me" which we thought was hilarious so now i think he thinks it's funny to say someone hit him. he goes through his entire knowledge base of people saying they hit him.
he's also into naming colors now; he's got down red green orange pink purple and brown...still has a hard time with yellow and blue

^^I agree! Sydney seems to pick a lot of words up a daycare, but honestly they have been slow to come, just all of a sudden she started saying a bunch of new stuff. also I was worried she wasn't saying enough and her teacher assured me she was. I think some kids are just a slower at talking, once he starts he probably won't stop! My nephew never said a word until he was 2, nothing! not mama, dada, anything! he is 19 now and doesn't shut the H up LOL so try not to worry too much. check with your ped if you are concerned too!

Well apparently they only need to know at least 3 words by 18 months. If you child isn't talking by the age of 3 then there would be cause for concern. Until then just keep teaching him, make him ask for stuff, make him try to say what he wants by copying what you say. We do that with Ryan. If he wants something like juice i say "do you want juice" and he says "please" but i say "say juice please" We pretty much just make him say whatever when he wants something or wants to know what it is.

Audrey is REALLY into saying Eye! and then "points" to your eye, but really pokes your eye really hard.
It really hurts a lot, but I don't want to discourage her from learning that way. I'm working on nose right now, actually.

Jack does the same thing!!! Most days when I pick him up from daycare, he runs over saying "mommy!", climbs up on me, and pokes me in the eye says "Eye" and pulls my eyebrows -- lol. What a weirdo!
Jack does tons of animal sounds (meow, roar, grrr, woof, moo, baa, etc) and is starting to name more body parts (mouth, hair, eyes, nose) although he can identify tons more. Colors... not so much. I try to practice with him, but when I ask him what color something is, he says "fraaa" which I am totally unclear about.

water (so cute - wa-ta)
watermelon (metamelon is more what it sounds like)
yes
I wasn't going to make a list, but then I decided I should copy it into word and save it so I have a comparison for later. I know there are more words than I have the patience to think of right now Like yesterday we were on a walk and there were tons of geese flying off and I said "bye geese" and then we kept trying to say it, but it sounded more like geek!
He also tries to sing: Twinkle, twinkle; Baa Baa Black Sheep; Itsy Bitsy Spider; and Rock a bye Baby.

Your kids are all talking more than Rhiannon! She's still doing better than doovan did at this age though so I'm not worried,. Her new word is poo poo. Doesn't say it about her own diaper, but will point to the dog poo and yell ba poo!!!! She also loves to say good girl. She will tell the dog to sit and then say good girl. Or she will tell me good girl. LOL I say good girl when she does something I like so she's repeating it all the time. She says mama, dada, bumpa (grampa) and some other words but my computer is going to die so I have to stop typing now. LOL

roman has really taken off in this department recently. i made a list just for myself the other day, and he has well over 75 words. now granted, many only dh and i can understand, but he uses them consistently and appropriately. he's not in daycare, but he has a mommy that talks to him NONSTOP all day. lol. i even narrate when we are driving-"here we go, up the driveway. oh, look at those cows in the pasture. i see a black one and a brown one." etc...
here's a blurb from the american academy of pediatrics "caring for your baby and young child" most toddlers master at least 50 spoken words by the end of the second year (by the time they are 2) and can talk in sentences, although there are differences among children. even with normal hearing and intelligence, some don't talk much during the second year. Also, boys generally develop language skills more slowly than girls.

Samara's newest is:
"Come on Mommy.....Walk me" lol meaning she wants me to go with her somewhere.
"OOOOOH Spooky Pumpkin" - in reference to the pumpkins on the porch, she also has a hand thing she does with this
"Where are you, Mommy"
"Dirty" or "Diaper changed" - meaning she needs a new diaper.
She knows all the parts of the face and she'll point to either hers or mine and say them - so eyes, eyebrows, hair, nose, mouth, teeth, tongue, ears...etc.
She can count with me, but not by herself quite yet. She can do 1,2,3 alone, but she'll count to 10 or so with me, she does every other number. So if I say 1- she'll say 2 and various other numbers she'll catch before I get to them.
She tries to say other sentences, but sometimes it's really difficult to break it down and get what she means. She doesn't really say "one word" which drives me a little batty because instead of just saying "water" - I get this long drawn out question.....followed by frustration when I don't immediately get that what she wants is water.
