What in your mind constitutes a situation serious enough to remove a child from his or her parents' care?

Would you only want the child removed if there was very serious physical or sexual abuse? How about mental abuse?

How about cases where the parent uses the child to help commit a crime? You hear of parents using their children to shoplift items, run drugs, and now there's the whole Balloon Boy Hoax. Should children be taken away from parents who do such things?

I see too much on my job, I report when appropriate, but I also know that in my county alone there is an emergent need for 1300 foster homes. Unfortunately DFACS (CPS) will remove in extreme circumstances.

I do think that serious continual mental abuse should be treated on the same level as other abuses, however, the system cannot accommodate the influx. When you have a system that only pays for 1-2 visits a month for mental health issues and therapy, the system clearly fails kiddos.

Parents who use their kids in the commission of crime (career shoplifters who train their 5 year old to snatch stuff) and get caught do lose their parental rights.
