I'll tell you one thing, given the choice, I'd sure as heck prefer to drug my unborn baby with MJ before I'd let them come near us with Nubain.
Seriously though, it's not for me. I guess my only concern is that it's self-medicating, and the person ingesting (smoking?) it wouldn't have as much control over dosage, etc. Plus it's not like detailed studies have been done monitoring MJ use during labor (imagine trying to find subjects for that one) and the effects on the baby, so it's pretty anecdotal (as far as I know, please correct me if I'm wrong)
~Beth~ Wife to my Airman Chris, and mommy to: Anthony Nathaniel (8/31/04), Anastasia Fae (8/01/06), Baby C (lost on 10/12/07), David Cillian (7/31/08), Charles George (4/29/10), and Alan Christopher (2/22/12)
I think that doing it throughout your pregnancy is probably a very bad idea. However doing it while in labor... eh. I don't see a difference between the MJ or having a valium in terms of effects on the baby at that point. I know a lot of people my age (born in the 70s) whose mothers got high as a kite when they went into labor to help things go smoother.. from what I hear it worked. It helps loosen muscles which is why people with MS use it. As that point in the pregnancy I don't think a little shot of it is gonna hurt the baby more or less than anything else that a baby shouldn't have.
But I agree it probably shouldn't be smoked, find another way to take it.
I can't say that i recommend an epidural over the use of marijuana. didn't that start out as an injection of cocaine? but i don't know the effects of marijuana during childbirth. I'm eager to find out as it's something i would consider. marijuana has been proven to ease pain.
