Mom made son kill hamster with hammer, police say 012210 - The Augusta Chronicle

While I think the county absolutely made the right choice in charging her, some posts in the story's comment board seem to think it was unwarranted to charge her. What do you think?

W T F???? She should be charged with more than that! Ugh! I am so disgusted right now! I don't know what additional charges I would think are appropriate, but that woman is the very essence of cruel. She doesn't deserve to have children or animals, and I don't make that statement lightly.

holy..... he needs to be taken from her. That is horribly mentally abusive to the boy to make him do something like that!

I can't imagine. I had a pet rat as a young teen, and I loved him. How traumatic to that poor kid. I don't get why some of the article's posters thought it was over the top at all.

Ditto everyone else. That boy is going to be scarred. I can't imagine the trauma.

I heard this on the radio earlier, and felt like I was going to vomit. It's hideous and horrible and I'm glad she was charged. What a terrible "punishment" to inflict on a child, that IS emotional abuse.

Frankly, someone capable of doing this has probably been doing terrible **** to that kid for years

My stomach turned just reading the title. I have read some terrible stories today, but to think of a MOTHER making her child kill a beloved pet.. makes me just sick. Children often think of pets as FRIENDS. My God..

This isn't as uncommon as you think it is though... I've heard of stuff like this before.

That poor little boy! Are you serious? I wish that was some sort of bad joke, because I really think she ought to stay in jail. She forced her CHILD to murder an animal because of a bad grade? ***?

My first thought when I read that was Jeffrey Dahmer.
