Today when I was leaving the gym, I saw 2 cars in the YMCA parking lot that had bumper stickers that said "Leave Christ in Christmas!" and "It's not HAPPY HOLIDAYS it's MERRY CHRISTMAS!"
What are your thoughts on this? Do you say one or the other? Do you get offended if someone says one or the other to you? Should stores like Target or Wal-Mart say Happy Holidays or Merry Christmas?

I say both and am not offended by any saying. I can't imagine being offended by the wording of soemthing like that, it's just silly to me.

I hate how everything has to be PC nowadays. I say Merry Christmas, always have, always will. I think its silly to change it, people get offended too easily.

I say Happy Holidays because I like to recognize all holidays. It is not PC to be aware that there are more holidays than just commercialized Christmas.

I use both and it doesn't bother me if someone wishes me a Happy whatever. When someone gives me any type of a seasonal greeting, I take it that they are wishing me well and its nothing that I should be offended by.

Oh and retail stores should say "Happy Holidays" OR "Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas!" If Christians really want to hear the word "Christ" so badly.

If its a private business, they should say whatever they want. While its more inclusive to say Happy Holidays, if the owners of the business only want to use a certain seasonal greeting, they should be able to do so.

I say whatever I feel like saying at the time. I do prefer to use Happy Holiday's though, for the reasons that Deniz stated.
I could never be offended for someone telling me to be "happy" or "merry" so the "war on Christmas" is the most ridiculous thing ever, to me.

I don't understand this. The holiday IS Christmas, why shouldn't anyone say Merry Christmas. If you aren't christian and don't believe in that part of it fine, but the holiday is still Christmas regardless if you go to church or just have your husband dress up as Santa and leave presents under the tree.
I'm telling you (in general) to have a good/happy Christmas day by saying Merry Christmas. I'm not saying "you must believe in Christ and this whole day is about him and I will continue trying to put the word "Christ" in as many words as I can just to offend you."
Yes there are other holidays around Christmas too, but the point of saying Merry Christmas is not so people can say "christ" every five seconds, it was to wish people a good day for crying out loud.
People should stop being offended by every stupid little thing and learn to say thank you once in a while when someone is giving them a greeting. Whether it be Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, or Happy Hanukkah, just say thank you and go about your day. Why would you get annoyed at someone trying to be nice to you?
ETA: I don't disagree that all holidays should be recognized, nor am I saying Christmas is the most important, so everyone should say Merry Christmas. I was just saying why I think the it's asinine to me to be annoyed at someone telling you to have a nice day.

I agree that the term Merry Christmas is more commercial than not, I am just use to saying it. At our church we say "christ is born" instead of Merry Christmas most of the times anyway.

I agree. I don't get this whole nit picking at every little thing. It seems like so many people just want to be grumpy and have to have something to be grumpy about.

Merry Christmas. It has nothing to do with religion. It's a holiday I celebrate (my favourite, actually) and I think it's foolish to disguise that into something the politically correct whistle blowers consider more palatable. I don't get my panties into a bunch when someone says Happy (enter national/religious holiday here), I smile, say 'you too' and move one with my day. I expect the same courtesy from others. I like to learn about other's traditions and am thrilled to be included.
Also, to be honest, if anyone in my circle of friends celebrated a different holiday, I would happily celebrate right alongside them because holidays tend to include parties with family, friends and good food...all a-ok in my books.

See now if employees at Walmart were saying that to people as they were leaving the register, I could completely understand why people would be offended. Not everyone believes that and that is bringing religion into it. "Merry Christmas"="Have a happy Christmas day" because the day is called "Christmas", that is all.

I agree with you and sunshine. Sometime people just look to find something negative in what you say. If someone said Happy Kwanza to me, I would say thank you and move on. Don't need to make a big deal about it, if I don't celebrate the holiday.

I don't care either way. I think it's a pretty trivial thing to be offended by. If you don't like "Merry Christmas" then don't say it. I don't really say one more than the other, I've used both. I don't understand getting offended by it.

We only say that in church and around the church members. once you say that, the other person responds "glorify him". I say merry christmas everywhere else. Since most would have no idea what I was talking about, if said christ is born.

So you're telling me that every day up to Christmas is Christmas? Yeah, on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, it makes sense... but I still say Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to strangers.
I don't know the exact days of Hanukkah and Kwanzaa and any other holiday, therefore I say Happy Holidays. Why shouldn't those holidays be happy too? This country is a melting pot, with more than one holiday in December.
