Is 6 years in prison a just punishment for a mental health professional who was convicted of sexually assaulting a minor patient?

No. He should have gotten many more years. I'm getting annoyed with the justice system in USA. People who should be behind bars for a long time get out with little time, and it's not right.

Only 6 years for rape of a minor? That is so screwed up.

Not nearly enough time. Not only did this person take advantage of a minor but the add slap of his using his trust and his profession to try to cover it up takes it up a notch IMO

I clicked the article and the first thing I checked was the city. Nope not Sheboygan (city I live in). This is the norm here unfortunately, sex offenders USUALLY just get probation maybe a few years prison. NEVER over 10. Is it a fair punishment? No. Does it surprise me. No..

I do not think it is a just punishment, but it is in line with charges I've seen for people with similar charges. I see people all the time that are serving more years for drug related crimes than sex offenses. I feel that this is mostly what is wrong with our justice system. We want to reduce our prison population and I could pick hundreds of low-level drug offenders from my institution alone. It would save us money and then we would be able to afford to give the sex offenders more time.

^^^^ I was going to say that exact thing but didn't want to change the subject. If they didn't crowd jails/prisons with pot heads there would be room for real criminals.

Being totally curious and not the least bit sarcastic---How would you counsel a person like this? I mean, he's got to know plenty of stuff about psychology I guess if he hypnotizes people. How would someone like that receive therapy and not end up totally manipulating the therapist?

Nowhere near enough! My birth organism received two 25yr sentences. Unfortunately he gets to serve them concurrently. But that's a heck of a lot better than 6 measly years! This makes me want to vomit...

Not anywhere near just, but then most punishments in our judicial system aren't anywhere near just. Typical and unfortunately, doesn't surprise me in the least.

There are way too many of the "wrong" criminals in our jails and prisons these days. It leaves very little room for the ones who *need to be there, and leaves very few resources left for those who need to put them there.
Our entire system is whack and has been for as long as I can remember.

Not nearly long enough, and what a huge violation of trust. That makes me so sad and sick to my stomach.

not enough in my point of view but saying that makes me realize how soft norwegian prison and prison times are, he wouldn't of even gotten 6 years for this here.
