I thought I would just point that out, and I realize you guys are going to think I am the Queen of nitpicking, but he wasn't.
I guess it just irks me, my family is Christian, and they go on and on about Jesus's Birthday.
He wasn't born December 25th, nor was he even born in December.
The exact date month and year of his birth cannot be determined, but it's believed to be somewhere between April and July, and he died somewhere between ages 33 and 35.
I also think it's interesting that Christmas wasn't even celebrated until the 19th century and it was a Pagan Feast that started the celebration. So much for Christian Holiday lol )))

Oh don't even get me started on this one... It's a huge pet peeve of mine that Xmas has become such a spectacle over if it's secular, religious, or other... Why not just enjoy the holiday the way YOU want to and let others enjoy it the way THEY want to. Seems so simple, no?

I just thought I'd post it because I'm always baffled at the number of people who actually believe he was born on that day. Thought it might spark an interesting discussion

It's common knowledge to those who want to a. believe it b. those who are willing to hear it. Unfortunately, most who are that adamant that he was born on that day will argue tooth and nail over something that cannot be truly proven. They're arguments almost always boils down to, I know it to be true because the bible tells us so. So um yeah, many will turn a blind eye to this common knowledge.

But the Bible never says December 25, lol! And no, you can't prove it the day he was born, but you can prove that taxes were collected in the spring during that part of the world and that time period, which is what Mary and Joseph were doing when Jesus was born.
I'm already over all of the stupid FB messages about keeping Christ in Christmas. Amazing to me the amount of people who think all their religious holidays began as religious holidays.... not so much!

But why can't people who CHOOSE to, keep the Christ in Christmas? Just because it didn't begin as a Christian holiday or is the actual day of Christ's birth doesn't invalidate that it is the day most Christians use to celebrate the birth of Christ.
I'm fine with that- the one I've seen says this though:
Quote:
Not to offend anyone but this is what I believe. (I couldn't really care less if it does offend you) I am sick and tired of every year when CHRISTMAS comes around, there are people who want to take CHRIST out of CHRISTMAS because it might offend someone. Well, how about all of the CHRISTIANS? What about offending us because you are taking our CHRIST out of CHRISTMAS!?!? CHRIST IS CHRISTMAS!!! If you aren't celebrating CHRIST then why are you celebrating? CHRISTMAS is about the birth of our SAVIOR! CHRISTMAS is one of a few holidays left that celebrate my CHRIST! Leave my holiday alone!!! And tell everyone MERRY CHRISTMAS, not Happy Holidays! Repost if your not ashamed

LOL I know! That's one of the reasons why I love that argument. Yet another fabled tale that we're all supposed to believe.

Oh that's just awesome. I love how ignorant all those statements make people look.

Many dates for most of the Judao-Christian holidays are not necessarily the true dates. They were celebrated around the Pagan holidays so as not to draw attention to themselves. I don't think it's a big deal regardless and don't have an issue with keeping Christ in Christmas.
As an Atheist I choose to celebrate the secular traditions of the holiday. I could just as easily call it solstice, hanukkah, festivus or flim flammery.

Christmas is the most irksome holiday for me. Folks at church go on about "keeping Christ in Christmas" and I love to tweak their noses a bit by suggesting they take the gifts, gorging and pretenses out of Christmas and see what's left

I don't get how some people don't understand that Christmas isn't the only holiday at this time of year. I mean, I would say Merry Christmas to someone in church or something (not that I go to church) but I don't assume that every celebrates Christmas. And really? If it bothers you that much that people don't say it, you need to take a better look at your belief system.
My only thought about this is we don't have to buy gifts twice a year do we?
LOL well that could mean 2 major shopping holidays... Probably like the Tuesday after easter
I think you should be allowed to call it what you want to. CHRISTmas, SANTAmas.. what ever floats your boat (but I think people should be respectful and not make bashing names)
I do not think that you should be ridiculed for saying "Merry Christmas", if people want their holidays to be respected, they need to respect someone else. I remember working for the NYC delivery company (at a call center) and we were wished "Happy *insert Jewish holiday*!" quite frequently.. despite the fact none of us were Jewish we usually said it back because that was the nice thing to do! But.. we weren't allowed to say Merry Christmas or risk our jobs... very unfair especially if the Customer had said it first.

I remember hearing a few years ago that Jesus was most likely born in the spring. It's no big deal to me really, since I don't follow any faith. I think many people lost sight of what Christmas was suppose to mean, now it seems to be about who buys the most or the biggest presents.
