Not sure of how many of you know who Paula Deen is or of the controversy surrounding her. She is a food network star who makes fat laden foods that expand my waistline just by watching.
She is under fire for not disclosing that she has diabetes while showing the public how to prepare extremely unhealthy foods.
Do you agree that she should have told her audience about her diabetes?
My answer to it is no. It doesn't take a genius to know that the food she makes is unhealthy. If you decide to make and eat that type of food on a regular basis, then it is your fault for any negative impact on your health.
Nope, she has no obligation to anyone. Her foods are sooo unhealthy... its not hard to know that. I wasn't surprised when I heard she had diabetes just based on the few times I've seen the crap she makes on her show.
Why should she have to? I can't say anyone would be surprised with the diagnoses.
Even if she did not have diabetes she is quite overweight. I can't imagine anyone has been looking at her style of cooking as the picture of fitness or health.
That's her private business. So what if she has it. It's not like she's yelling out he people with diabetes come and eat all these unhealthy foods I make. This all boils down to personal responsibility. If you know you can't eat those foods, don't freaking eat them you moron!

She's a professional chef, not the president. If she had had a "healthy" image and was misrepresenting herself than I would think that it would be better for her to say she had diabetes but her image wasn't exactly "health conscious".
She doesn't have to disclose her medical information.
And I don't really like her in general. Her teeth are too white, her eyes are too blue, her tan is too fake and her accent is too stereotypical. She'd fit in better as a grandma on Toddlers And Tiaras than a cooking show.
Nope, medical junk doesn't need to be public. Her food is very unhealthy and I think many people watching her should know that. I've only seen her a few times and her food just seems so nasty.

While I don’t think anyone should be obligated to share that they have diabetes, I do agree with labeling her a hypocrite. She is making millions off of promoting diabetogenic foods and is now poised to make even more in partnering with diabetes drug maker, NovoNorisk.

^^ this exactly...i think she's a massive hypocrite to wait until she has a brand new career path (because despite the fact that everyone should have known her food was bad for you, confirming that it can and did cause you big heath issues i doubt will do a lot for her cookbook sales) hawking diabetes meds. If you build a brand acting like you care about your viewers/readers and then don't inform them until you have a financial incentive to, then yes you're a hypocrite.
And she missed an awesome opportunity to, rather than hide her diagnosis until she could profit from it, actually educate her viewers to the risks of overeating/using unhealthy recipes and maybe even turn a new leaf and develop healthier comfort food recipes for her fans.
First of all, diabetes is not just caused by only what you eat. There are so many factors to getting this condition. I know people who eat horribly (and worse than anything she'd ever cook) and never get anything and others who have diabetes or even pre-diabetes who eat pretty well. So, I don't think she had any obligation to broadcast her diabetes. She didn't "Lie" about anything, she just chose to keep her business private---that's okay with me. Now if someone asked her about it and she denied it? (i.e. lie) I'd not be too happy with her.

agreed.
It really strikes me when those in the public eye, those who can generate publicity for these illnesses from a personal view point, as odd when they do not.

Ridiculous. Nobody has the right to know anyone else's medical information (including that of the President's, since someone brought that up).
I do agree that it's pretty low to hawk unhealthy foods and then hawk diabetes meds. However, it isn't entirely caused by diet, though it certainly doesn't help.

First, Paula Deen is pretty synonymous with butter. Like many of the pp have said, it is pretty obvious that her food is unhealthy. Delicious, yes, but not healthy. Nor does she present it as such.
Second, even if she WAS airing a healthy eating show (assuming her food truly was healthy), I wouldn't necessarily expect her to air her personal health information.
Also, I'm not entirely sure how she is a hypocrite? She's not putting on a false air of being virtuous. She didn't purposely get diabetes to increase her profits. Sure, she's making the most of the opportunity, but I can't really blame her for that.
No, she did not have to disclose any medical information and I don't really see a controversy unless she advertised her food as healthy.

Another thing where 'being famous' got her thrown under the bus. Just like how, because the Duggars are on tv, you are allowed to chime in on how many children they have, I guess because Paula Deen is on tv you get to know even aspect of her life as well.

It's her personal business, she doesn't owe the public anything. I don't understand the mentality of "your a celebrity we have the right to know all about you"
And I don't blame her for making sure she has an income coming in. People also forget that the cooking show was her JOB. It's how she made a living. She's a smart woman & knew that once the diabeties was public, her cooking show would be over. I don't see how anyone can blame her for lining up her next job. It's what us regular folks try to do.....
