Hearses to lead anti-violence motorcade in Detroit | MLive.com
Just saw this on our local news and thought it was an interesting concept. Basically, they took 16 hearses through Detroit in an effort to stop all the murders in the city. Do you think a campaign like this will make any real impact on the violence within the city? Or in any city for that matter.

I would love to think it would but in reality it probably won't.

I'm going to agree with Liz. Violence has become such an integrated part of Detroit (and many other places) that death is an almost daily occurrence. Id seeing your friend/sister/brother/child/mother/father/neighbor did not effect the community as a whole than empty hearses in a parade will not have any results.

Knowing people today, and how they react to things, it wouldn't surprise me to see it cause an even bigger uproar to be honest. People kinda suck sometimes.
I certainly don't think it will have the impact they're looking for, though. I wish that weren't the case.

Yeah, I'm feeling the same way. In probably 2 years, I knew of 3 people who were killed in gun related incidents. One was drug related, one was a robbery. I think Detroit is quickly becoming a lost cause. I read in one of the articles about this rally that every 22 minutes, 1 person moves out of Detroit and I'm not surprised. It was a crap hole 8 years ago and its just gotten worse since. I don't know why the violence hasn't stopped but it seems like any time I see the news, its about these 3 young kids being gunned down in the street or this old guy robbing that liquor store. Its just not a good place to be.

Sadly, I don't think it will make a difference.

If seeing or hearing about people in your city dying due to violence at an alarming rate, why would seeing a hearse make one lick of difference?

I think the only thing that might make a difference is when they see a loved one in the casket. The way the Maury show has dome with some of their wild child shows. Some of those children did make a change once they saw their loved one "dead."

Maury had shows about something other than Who's My Baby's Daddy? Wow...I had no clue!

That kind of thing usually ends in retaliation rather than life change from my experiences. Wish it were different.

Not all experiences are identical. Hence the word might in my post. I'm talking about what I've seen with many different kids on a show, not what I've personally experienced. Retaliation is not the go to response for all, only some.
