This seems very strange to me. First off, I can see the frustration of having a sudden population boom and the town being too crowded. I hate festival weekends here because of over crowding so I do have a little compassion there.
But what is banning the RVs supposed to accomplish? They say there hasn't been an increase in crime, their complains are peeing in alleys and being rude to neighbors. It doesn't matter if a person is living in an apartment or an RV, if they're rude they're rude.
From what I've seen in this article, it feels like the locals are just lashing out in the only way they can. Banning the RVs isn't going to make the men leave. It's going to make them homeless.

I have to agree with you.


I also got a laugh out of "The workers aren't living in temporary homes for lack of money." Unless you're single with no responsibilities, or you brought your family with you, $1300 a week doesn't go far. You'd think it would... but it doesn't when your wife and kids live 5 states away and you're paying for everything there too. RV's make life possible for these men, allow for money to go into savings, rather than check to check.

I'd love to be in temporary housing.. but I'm a huge baby and would not feel safe. Instead we maintain 2 apartments, 2 sets of bills etc while he's on the road. And it's not cheap. Hopefully the second income I hope to add this fall will make things easier (and allow for temporary housing because I'll be at the apt in Wi while he works.. he doesn't care where he lives, long as he can shower).

These oil companies have the potential of moving at a minute's notice too right? To a different city or even state? I would assume the mobile homes would make it easier for the men to follow their job too.
Who gets the fine, the person renting their land or the men?

I'd say the person committing the act Beth. If an apartment renter causes a ruckus they don't charge the apartment owner... or at least I wouldn't think they would.

So, say 1/2 the people don't like these campers, but the other 1/2 are renting to them, and some of them depend on the $$ that they get from renting out their land? That's not fair for the land owner either.

I would think sticking to things like disorderly conduct fines for public urination would be good enough. Don't ban the campers in general. You can only have a certain amount of disorderly conduct fines before you have to do jail time, and jail time = loss of work, so the bad ones should be weeded out I would think.
