A teacher has been suspended by a Montreal school for showing Grade 10 students the infamous video that shows a killing allegedly committed by Luka Rocco Magnotta.
Yes, absolutely fired...do not pass go, do not collect $200. Completely, totally, morally reprehensible to show that video especially to high school students. I almost got physically ill just reading about what that video apparently shows - I can't even fully comprehend how enraged I would be if my child was shown that video in school. I have no clue what this guy thought it would "teach" them other than expose them to one of the most vicious, horrifying crimes ever committed and a terrifying lack of humanity.
Teacher fully in the wrong, and should be fired. While it doesn't sound like it was the teachers idea to show the film, since when do you let a group of 10th graders vote on a snuff film showing in class? You're a teacher, you're in charge.
We used to walk all over our 20 something teachers too, they tried to be cool and be our friend. Full advantage was taken. We spent most of 9th grade french outside playing sports.. helps that the teacher was the gym teacher too.

He should have been fired immediately instead of just suspended "with pay". I know that's part of the union function but as a parent, I would be beyond angry. However, at least the school adressed the situation as quickly as possible.
Quote:
The teacher showed the students the grotesque scenes on June 4 and was
immediately suspended that afternoon -- with pay
And even if the kids were asking him to play the video, as a teacher(at any age), he should have known better.

That man has no business being a teacher if he thought showing that film was okay.
My students have been asking me for 2 weeks if we can watch a certain R rated movie on the last day of school. My answer is no every single time. When they ask why, I tell them that it is not appropriate to show any R-rated movies in a middle school classroom. After that, I get asked if they can bring movies such as Monsters Inc, which is fine.
I am traumatized just by a detailed description of the video that I read in another article. I would be horrified and pissed if one of my kids saw it, especially if it was provided by a teacher. He should absolutely be fired and never be allowed to teach. I'd be willing to classify this as abuse.
His defense is, the teenagers asked so I said yes? Aren't teenagers sort of known for terrible decsion making skills? Isn't the teacher the adult in the room? Shouldn't he have better decsion making skills?
My wife is a teacher and her students are always asking her if they can do/watch x, y, and z. But in her class she is the adult, if it isn't apporiate or on topic, they don't do it. They were learning about gentics this year (she teaches science) and one kid thought they should really watch Splice to learn about genitics. Several of his classemates agreed. They asked. They begged. She said no. Because she, as an adult, can tell children no. Which is why she hasn't made the news.
Are there any laws against showing porn to minors in Montreal? I hope so. I am dumbfounded by this teachers severe lapse of judgment. I sincerely hope this man is fired. I cannot imagine any school system allowing this man to stay.

I thought a snuff film was both porn and murder together. Usually porn first then the murder but from what I've read this guy killed first and then had sex with the dead body.
I don't think I'm going to need to see that video. A picture is worth a thousand words and I don't need to even see a hundred more words about what happened on that vid.
So the movie (I'm not going to click on any videos since I'll get offended, I am sure) is about a murderer that then practices necrophilia (rape of dead body)? ***? Was this an actual murder-rape in progress or a movie? Not that it makes any difference but I'd think if it was an actual murder-rape on caught on tape, that wouldn't even be in the public eye!
I don't even want to see that, let alone let anyone else I know see it, let alone a CHILD see it!

What my mind cannot wrap around, is the fact that he had this video, and obviously TOLD the students about it!!
It's one thing to discuss the murder with the students, that's fine, within obvious restrictions given the sensitive nature. But at what point was the topic brought on that the teacher had the video on his laptop??? I mean seriously, there's a reason why teachers are adults and not just another child. The children/students are supposed to be guided.
This makes me sick.

The movie was posted online and some site that hosts gore films posted it and, evidently, is facing charges.
From what I read, the film shows the victim tied to a bed and then murdered with an ice pick and kitchen knives and dismembered and decapitated. Then it shows the guy having sex with the dismembered body and he then calls his dog into feed on the corpse.
How this even came up in class is a puzzle to me but for the teacher to not only permit the discussion to continue, MUCH LESS end up with him pulling up the video for his students to view is beyond my comprehension.

Its the gay porn star cannibal from Canada. He recorded this himself(I think the victim was his ex boyfriend) but I'm not sure if he put it up on the net or not. He was also sending body parts in the mail. I quit reading the articles after the first few days because it was so sickening.

I'm very happy to hear he's been fired. However, now I'm just disturbed that some of these kids in the class said it was no big deal to watch it. My 6 year old is scared of Peter and The Wolf, how can a 15 year old watch an actual real live murder and think it's no big deal??? I cannot think of a single reason this video was shown to children especially. I could have maybe understood it being shown to adults in university but I still fail to see one single educational reason for showing a murder unless it was a forensics or criminology class.
Lynn, this case is ridiculous. Not only did he do what everyone has posted above, he posted the video to an online gore website (which I think should be illegal, but that's another debate) and then mailed some of the body parts. A hand and a foot were mailed to the head offices of two of the major Canadian political parties, the other hand and foot were mailed to two middle schools in Vancouver. The torso was found in a suitcase in his apartment and the head hasn't been found that I know of. Some seriously nasty stuff.
Furthermore, how is this video still available for public view? A hit Hollywood movie is pulled from the internet instantly and people are charged for having a cell phone with a camera in the theatre yet a simple Google search will get you an actual murder video. Nice priorities.

I almost commented on this myself - that was maybe the single most disturbing part of the article. This wasn't "just like what you see on TV" this a HUMAN BEING being MURDERED in one of the most terrifyingly horrific manners you could ever imagine. He's not a character on TV, this was someone's son and he deserves (as does his family) some semblance of dignity and humanity in death. No one should see this video, other than the individuals associated with this guy's eventual murder trial....I think it's horrendous that there are enough people who seek out that type of video for "entertainment purposes" that there's a website (sadly, i'm sure more than one) who cater to it. I can't fathom what motivates someone to seek out and enjoy the last, most private, painful, moments in another person's life. If it were your (general "you" to the sick viewers of these websites) loved one, your child or family member would it not turn your stomach every moment to think there are people out there enjoying watching this happen, mocking them...it's so sick, so morally bankrupt to me that it makes me depressed - this is the society I raise my own child in, and it's often so unworthy
ETA: I had to view photos once as part of a criminal case of a young woman who had been decapitated (with a small hack saw) and I can assure you it to this day the memories still give me nightmares...and it seems minor compared to what this lunatic did to that poor man. I pity the jury & legal teams that will eventually be forced to watch that video multiple times as part of his trial...wouldn't wish that on anyone

^^I was watching a show on the History Channel a few years back. They were showing footage of mass executions in China. I can't even remember what decade they were taking place. It is something that I still can't get out of my head. I am sure that it is nothing compared to what is in the video that teacher showed to the students, and that's before the pornography aspect is brought into it. What really baffles me is that only three students objected to the teacher playing the video.
