New York City recently put a ban on soda's/pops being served larger then 16oz, this includes the large sized pops sold at Mcdonald's, Wendy's and the theaters.

Restaurants, theaters, delis etc, could be served a fine if they are caught selling larger drinks.

Is this to much control? Or a move in the right direction to help fight obesity?

Yup, we did but it actually just passed today and won't take effect until March 2013.

Fortunately for the alcoholics, it doesn't apply to alcoholic beverages.

The ban doesn't apply to lower-calorie drinks, such as water or diet soda, or to

it kinda makes me laugh that diet pop doesn't have the restriction... while I'm aware sugar isn't present, pretty sure artificial sweeteners aren't guilt free either.

Aspartame is worse!! I was shocked to hear that diet pop was excluded. You know the saying "less fat then the original"....it's (mostly) common knowledge that they need to substitute the "less fat" with something else...and it's usually just as bad if sometimes not worse then having it with the normal fat content in it.

ETA: Sorry for the double post, guess I didn't look hard enough before I posted!!

I'm so annoyed that this ban passed. I swear this mayor is a nincompoop. And the things that are excluded are worse than the soda itself. Ugh

He is beyond a nincompoop. He is coming across like an arrogant donkey's behind. HE knows what is best for everyone right? ONLY he has self control, right? Nobody buys a large soda to share because it is cheaper that way, right?

So soda is oh so bad for you, yet it's perfectly legal and okay to buy alcohol and cigarettes?

Tolerance obviously requires a non-contentious manner of relating toward one another’s differences. But tolerance does not require abandoning one’s standards or one’s opinions on political or public policy choices. Tolerance is a way of reacting to diversity, not a command to insulate it from examination.
