Do you participate in Halloween?

I am hearing that some people are offended by it. I am not at all, I loved it as a kid and I still do, children get to be whoever they want for a day and it broadens their minds and boosts their imagination. I am not happy with the fact that the kids do not get to dress up at our school but I am not going to raise a ruccas about it because they are having a party, and I think that is better than nothing.

I agree with Amanda! I have an office roomate that is driving me crazy. I came into work the other day talking about the cutest costume I found for Chance, and all she says is, "I don't participate in Halloween." I said the same exact thing that Amanda said, and she said that if I knew what she knew I could in no way participate. I think if we isolate the kids and make them feel like they're missing something we're just going to turn them sour against religion and God.

Anyway my office roomate is a very devout southern baptist, and her church doesn't celebrate any holidays, or go to drs, and she's about to go through a prearranged marraige. They are not allowed to date or even speak to each other until they are married. She's gotten really snobbish and stuck on herself lately since she's been preparing for this wedding.

The other day I told her that they found a lump in my breast and I'm in a lot of pain from it, and she said that it might be a result of disobey God, and she doesn't want to here any complaining about the pain b/c it's God's will. So I'm not saying anything at all to her. Apparently we can't hold a conversation w/o her being perfect for being the way she is, and myself being a bad person b/c I'm not. This is the same person that I always defended to everyone before b/c they said she was short, rude, and an all around b****. But I also don't think what she is saying is appropriate for the workplace.

Halloween is my favorite holiday, has been since I was little. Some years I celebrate more than others, but that's generally due to money, time (the year Riley was born -- I got out of the hospital like 3-4 days before Halloween), friends, etc. When the kid(s) get older, I'm hoping to make it a big deal around our house again.

Chance's mom- that is VERY unapropriate for the work place and lacts tact. I really think a lot of Christian's believe the lies about Halloween being a halloween about satan and that's just not true. One christian told me it's a day for satan worshipers, and that's the biggestg bunch of BS EVER

I have to say...I am offended by pre-arranged marriage....Just kidding! Thats what you should say....to me marriage is about LOVE and Devotion to the person you LOVE. Not just settling for someone your family picks out for ya. Couldn't imagine the stupidity of that whole issue.

Anyways back to Halloween, it is not about the Devil...as some of you have stated. it is about fun and imagination. Candy and the feeling of being a little scared...and did I say candy!!! Like a vacation from the everyday real world, to be anybody you please for a day!!! For kids to be what inspires them most through play and imagination.....It is a learning experience, walking in someone elses shoes. My daughter loves Fairys, thats what she is gonna be, and it will be so fun and magical for her to be a Fairy even if it is only one night of the year. And Landon is going to be a Pirate, he loves pirates and he has the chance to become one...I think Chance is gonna be Superman...but he is 2 and what he says goes so he just might wanna take advantage of being 2 for Halloween!!! It is a great experience and anyone who challenges me is up for a good one!!

Wow, are you sure she is Southern Baptist. I was raised and still am Southern Baptist, and we don't believe anything like that! Sounds more like Jehovah's Witness to me, not saying you're wrong. I am just saying, that is NOT typical Southern Baptist. We celebrate holidays, and go to doctors, and we have never done pre-arranged marriage. I know the Southern Baptist Convention doesn't promote or back any of these things. If this is true, they are definitely a black sheep church. The Southern Baptist Convention even sponser programs that pass out presents to children at Christmas time. We celebrate all kinds of holidays, even Halloween. Our church runs what we call a Holy House on trick-or-treat night. It's kinda like a haunted house in reverse. We act out different Bible stories in each room. Our pastor's kids even trick-or-treat. I always trick-or-treated as a kid as did most kids in my church. That Southern Baptist church has to be the craziest one I have ever heard of. Wow....and as far as the whole thing about your breast lump, it was very inappropriate, and I would like to say that we do not all believe that way. Our doctrine does not teach God's punishment. It does teach God's healing and the power of prayer. I am sorry you have to put up with a co-worker like this. She is very radical in her beliefs and inappropriate in her actions toward you. Just know that this is not the norm for Southern Baptists or Christians for that matter. Again, I'm sorry you have to put up with it. I hope everything works out well with your health!

I do!!! I think it's a lot of fun! I always had fun with it as a kid, and as do most kids, from what I've seen! Candy is the best part, but costumes are definitely a close second.

When Maxx's therapist came over on Wednesday to work with him she had to ask my permission first on whether or not he can play with these little plastic jackolanterns. I was amazed because it is just a theme if anything. She said that a lot of people consider Halloween a satan worshipping holiday and they are so so wrong, lol. We celebrate it here. I feel bad for the kids that cant. Could you imagine how jealous they must get of the other kids? Myles school doesnt have halloween parties anymore because of this reason, but they take the kids to this ranch and let them pick pumpkins and pony rides. I understand the whole school thing, because it must really suck for all those little kids who arent allowed to participate.

I definately celebrate halloween. Not as actively as we used to, but I would love to find a new coven or even just a group of others who think like we do. We had a wonderful group in NC that understood that we have varied beliefs, being raised Christian and then finding that it didnt set well with us in most churches or with most ppl. I have found that the Wiccan/Pagan lifestyle agrees more with our beliefs than any other.
I think religion, celebration of beliefs etc is a individual thing, that everyone has a right to feel and belive the way they want.

Thanks...I did some reading about it and it sounds like it is not at all what people seem to get out of the first initial take of hearing about it. I think it makes alot of sense, the belif of what Halloween is and all. I have only read some not all but what I have read so far sounds like it is pretty normal stuff that makes alot of sense.

I celebrate Halloween/Samhain ... I don't like all the scary movies, but I love the candies and stuff.

I can hardly believe how rude that one lady is to you! I would just ignore her completely, sheesh!

i remember my mother saying, growing up as a southern baptist, that she was "suppose" to go to school dances, but she still attended..

i see halloween as a fun holiday for kids to have fun; its kinda like christmas and the whole santa image.. my dads exwifes niece was told as a child there was no such thing... she inturn told my younger brother there was no such thing and ruined it.. its all for fun!
