I was just reading on here, all of the day's post, well not all but alot, and some people on this board seem to be getting very touchy, and some are just trying to start fights. I know this is a debate board, but I swear that some people not everyone, or even the majority, but some are just looking for a fight . I thought the debate boards were about having an adult debate, not just picking a fight, or trying to look better than everyone else. Am I the only one seeing this, and if not what do you think is the reason it is turning in to this? I have been here for about 5 months now, and I have really only noticed this in the last month or so. Just wondering....

i used to read a lot before i started posting (had to gain up some courage hehe) but i have noticed it over the past couple of weeks. When i see things starting to go go sour, i do my best to try and sit back and enjoy my popcorn.

I think there are lots of newer people here that have caused a shift in how the debates are going.. To be honest, I've lost interest in many of the debates because I totally think people are here to fight lately and not actually discuss issues or debate them. I think people are bringing in so much personal issues they forget we debate here.

I honestly would not define this as a true debate board, in fact I think they should call it the "bait" board. It's become a place to fight, snap at someone, accuse someone, flame someone well, I could go on but it would be pointless.

My opinions seem to be very unpopular sometimes and I feel that there have been times when a person will bash me instead of debating back with me. Does that make sense?

This is very true. This is why I now stay out of some debates, as it would be too personal for me and take away from the actual debating.

Apparely if you disagree on a topic that hits home to some---you are rude. Maybe we should begin dating things like "Kool-Aid: Is cherry or graper the better flavor?" to prevent hurt feelings. Debating seems to be inappropriate around here anymore, well unless everyone has the same opinion--and that wouldn't make for much of a debate, would it?

Yes, it makes perfect sense to me. In fact, I saw it today. As a rule you might want to only debate the "safe" topics here at JM. If you have a truly heated debate (like todays), you might want to go to a more diverse debate board - perhaps one that has men and women - I think the testosterone helps to equal out the estrogen levels that seem to go through the roof here.

Personally, I prefer cherry. That has actually been my pregnancy obsession. I think I have had enough cherry Kool Aid in the last 8 months to fill an ocean!

ETA: this is why I haven't been posting much (well besides having finals this week, and dealing with Joshua and his health issues).

Debating isn't the problem. People aren't debating but baiting.

Oh it is not just the personal issues though, I have had my feelings hurt in a debate before, and there have been times that I have thought where the he!! are these people from that what they are saying is okay, but honestly I have seen people say stuff just to pi$$ someone off, and that is wrong, I know things get a little heated at times, and I have even said stuff that I shouldn't have, but some of this stuff on here is crazy. I think that there is a huge change, and I don't know if I should give up the debates, or wait for it to fade out. For the people that have been here a long time (Michelle) does this happen often, I mean I was wondering if the trouble starters will leave, or calm down?

I wouldn't pigeon hole the issue to estrogen.. Maybe a different chemical imbalance.

I think it comes in stages.. And sometimes it takes a few people to be temporarly suspended to see the error of their tact.

Am I one of the ones that you think 'pick' fights? Tell the truth. I can take it!

Maybe I missed an important part of the debates earlier today; I don't know. I didn't see a total lack of tact like I've seen in some of the debates over the past week.

Granted, I'm a relatively new person to this board as well, but I've been a faithful reader of posts for several months now.

I used to be a reader and twice a month responder in the debates, I'm wondering if it's just better to go back to mean and nasty Craig's list.

you know i don't really post too much on this board but i do enjoy reading the debates that do go on. I try to stay away from debates that i know i'll take personal offense to because i know that i'll be more of my personal beliefs and anger coming out rather than facts or whatnot. And ita, it's not just you.
