This was brought up in my playroom.

Do you celebrate your first mother's day when you're pregnant or after you give birth to your first?

I wanted to celebrate when I was pregnant (I was about 7 1/2 months on Mother's Day last year) but DH didn't think that qualified me as a mother yet. I disagree. I don't want to turn this into a pro-life debate or anything like that, but when do you consider yourself a mother -- as a pregnant woman or after having given birth?

By the way, we definitely celebrated Father's Day last year and Emilee hadn't yet been born. But that's another topic in itself.

I think you can celebrate mothers day if your still pregnant, your a mama to be, they have cards for pregnant mothers for mothers day. Your a mother even if your pregnant with your first.

I lost my first baby 4 weeks ago, i didn't make it out of the first trimester, but i clasify myself as a mother, even though my child grew wings. My sister however sees it differently and thinks that i'm not a mother because i'm not pregnant nor did i give birth.

So i think your a mother, even if your still pregnant or have lost a baby, and still have every right to celebrate mothers day like everyone else.

They way I see, and I hope I don't get flamed for this....

I think you are a mother as soon as you get pregnant. But I don't think you are a PARENT until you give birth. A parent is a title that I feel is earned, by waking up numerous times through out the night, cleaning up throw up without throwing up yourself, squeezing in one shower a week because you don't have time for anything else, singing "twinkle twinkle little star" a billion times a day... ect.

And to me, Mothers day is something that should be celebrated by the children to the mother. So a pregnant woman celebrating it, while its totally her prerogative, doesn't make sense to me. It's a day where your children are supposed to celebrate all the things you've done for them, you know?

I believe that you are a mother even while pregnant. I believe that a mother's job is to protect her child from harm, to love her child, and to provide the things that he or she needs in order to survive. As a pregnant woman I am doing all of that! Therefore, I am a mother!

Happy Mother's Day to all the mommies whether you have a child in your arms, in your womb, or in Heaven.

I agree with you, but I was afraid of offending people if I posted it after the person who posted before you lol I don't judge a pregnant mother who celebrates mother's day (or a woman who lost her child during pregnancy) - but I find it a little ironic that when it comes to fathers, they have to jump through rings of fire to be considered a FATHER and not just a sperm donor in the event of a divorce or something like that...but when it comes to mothers, no work is needed.

That sounds really mean, and I promise I don't mean it in a nasty way. I have no idea how to word it otherwise.

I disagree with this. Pregnant moms have already done a ton for their kids, and that should be recognized and celebrated, hopefully by the daddy to be.

Just realize that there is tons to go ..... I actually (being a mother of 3) have a lot more respect for my Mom on Mother's Day than for me. I have not even hit the teenage years but have sooo much more respect for her because of what I have gone through.

I think that a woman should celebrate Mother's Day when she is pregnant with her first, if she chooses to. If I happen to be pregnant with my first on Mother's Day, I will be celebrating. (p.s. I am pro-choice).
