Would you ever consider hiring an illegal day worker? I'm not talking about putting them on your payroll. Where I live, there are certain areas of town where the illegals line up on the curb. There are hundreds of them and it goes on for blocks. People pull up and the guys just hop in. They will do pretty much anything, paint, construction, yard work. I know that some companies, such as landscaping and construction pick them up when they are short staffed for the day. Also, families sometimes pick them up when they need work done around the house or yard. What do you think of this?

I wouldn't hire them. My problem with hiring illegals or to even hire someone for the day like cavenaugh mentioned above with men lining up for a day jobs is that there is no protection for the employer or the employee. If that employee were to be injured on the job he or she would have no real protection. Who would be responsible for medical bills if they were incurred. Obviously, the employee isn't going to get workman's comp.

I'm more in support of providing these jobs to people who are here legally and need the work (homeless people come immediately to mind). The jobs should be obtained and maintained legally.

Here they go through a workforce program, you have to fill out papers and such and you pay the labor pool and they pay the laboror, it is done this way b/c they have blanket policies that cover all of the workers.

No, no, no. I have a big issue with the whole illegal immigration thing, and won't encourage that by hiring one.

Yeah, i would never do it, because i don't believe in supporting illegal immigration. Also, i'd be concerned about safety issues bringing some stranger to my home... One of the speculations about the Jon Benet murder was that a man who'd been hired temporarily to do some work around the house had gotten obsessed with Jon Benet, and possibly came back to do something about it. Now, obviously that may or may not have happened... but that kind of thing IS possible, and would scare me too much to put myself or my son at risk like that.

^^^ That's how I feel too. Illegal or not, it haves me nervous to get some stranger off the street to work in or around my home. That's what happened with Elizabeth Smart.
