Lets say you know there is drug dealing going on in a house in your neighborhood. Or maybe at your place of employment. Maybe you seen someone making drug deal on the street somewhere while your out doing whatever. Maybe you know someone who might be dealing. Would you call police. What would you do. Or would you be scared that by telling. Someone would come back to haunt you big time. I never was in that sort of situation. But did call the police one time on a weekend. Someone or someones had put gang writing graffitti on a bunch of garages up our alley. I noticed our nieghbor on the left had the most writing on his garage. It also appeared he was not at home all weekend. It was deer hunting week. So he may have gone hunting. I call police to tell them of all the garages including my neighbors were full of gang writing. That they should come check it out. Wasn't sure if it was actual gang members or wanna be gang members or who did it. Well some days later the neighbor on my left was mad at me. Says why did I call police. Because the garages were all written on vandalized. He says well the police accused him of drug use. All because he had this huge boat parked in his yard and also owned a really nice pick up truck. Probably had the truck to tow the boat. They questioned him about the boat and truck. He went on about someone (s) being jealous over what he has. I said I could care less about what he owns. But figured I hadn't seen no cars at your house. And the garages were all written on. I'd report it to the police. The guy was mad I called the police. How he knew I called I don't know. Not unless the police told him who called. Well actually I never gave police my name. Just said I was watching out for my neighbors. He asked me never to call police again. Ok fine I was thinking. Hope his house gets robbed while I'm watching. I won't call police. Then see what he thinks then. Now if it were drugs I think I'd call crime prevention about it. Ask that I be kept annonymous. That I do not want anyone coming back after me. I think something as serious as drug dealing. I know I have to say something or the situation could get ugly.

I'm confused. You think your neighbor is dealing drugs? And you think that because he knew you had called the police about the vandalism? Have you seen him with drugs? Have you seen activity at his home that would lead you to believe there are drugs being distributed by him? And if he told you the police already questioned him and are suspicious of him, what could you tell them (factually) that would assist them?

No I don't think that of my neighbor. Someone had told me they suspected someone where they live of doing it. They had asked my oppinions whether they should tell police or not. I said they should. That drug dealing could get ugly. Was wondering if any of you could turn in a drug deal if you suspected someone of doing it. But the time I called about the garages being written on. The police thought my neighbor was asking for it. Well they didn't think people in my neighborhood made enough money to afford boats or nice pick up trucks. No this neighbor works and owns several rental properties. He makes his money honestly. But police turned the gang writing into something of drugs when it was not drug related.

I would place an anonymous call to the cops. I don't want that happening right next door to my family.

Ive seen what happens to people that do call the police...and i like my house to much to have it burnt down

Call the local tip line for your police station. We did this at my MILs house b/c neighbors in the community were dealing and bringing in all kinds of unsavory characters into the neighborhood. It was becoming insane. You shouldn't have to give your name. In our case, the cops are very busy here and it took quite a few calls to get them to come out. I would also talk to any neighbors that you do trust to see if they have seen any suspicious activity as well.

I think I'd find a pay phone across town to place an anonymous tip. Drug dealers scare the crap out of me. I don't want them in my neighborhood, but I also don't want them retailiating against me if they somehow manage to find out who called the cops.

When you call the police you dont have to give any info. I called for a noise complaint once and they didnt ask me anything except where the house I was complaining about was.

WE live in townhouses, and 2 buildings down from ours, there was a shotting and stabbing on my street. I'll report whatever I know to the police. And because people had already been doing that regarding that unit, the police are able to have an undercover cop in our neighborhood. Unfortunately, things have to happen first before police got involved :/

I would definitely call, no reason to give your name, and don't be nosing around so the supposed dealers figure out that it was probably you.

I wouldn't have a problem calling. But not from my own phone or cell phone. After what the cops did to my neighbor when I called for gang writing on garages. Giving him a hard time about drugs and he was a honest hard working guy not dealing drugs. I'd probably go down the block to the grocery store. Use the pay phone. My person who asked me what to do. They were worried about would the person(s)being told on come back and get even. I said you tell police you need to be completely kept annonymous. I can understand the retaliation for telling. Then said you might accidentally walk in on a deal taking place. Someone may do you harm to ensure you don't talk for what you seen. So annonymously is the way to go. I'll find out Monday if my person had called or not. When things happen in the neighborhood. Sometimes I wonder is it worth it to call. Our police dept. They act like why did we call them. If they have to come out. They act like it's nothing major. The house across from me has had their truck broken into a few times. Police did nothing. They said why was your truck parked where it was and with what was in it. The dh is some sort of repair person. It was a company truck parked in back full of tools and things necessary for his job. So naturally he isn't going to unload and reload his truck daily. He'll just keep it locked with the auto alarm set. My friends dh always came home with the company truck He was an electrician. He just kept it locked in the drive way.
