I noticed I spelled kiddie wrong, but I don't know how to change it...and I'm an English teacher LOL...like a Shirley Temple or a "virgin" strawberry margarita.

No, I don't think they promote teen drinking. I had them all the time and I have never had a drink in my life.

Dr. Phil actually didn't see the problem with them, but the father didn't like that the mother let their daughters get them.

I don't guess there is anything wrong with it. My son is 5 and gets Pina Colada shaved ice all of the time. I don't think I am promoting drinking because a pina colada is also a alcholic beverage. Or maybe I am taking it the wrong way.

Shirley Temples? i didnt know they were supposed to be alcoholic... i thought it was just like sprite or 7up and cherry??? ahh well, learned something new!
i dont really know, i remember when i was lil drinking them and never thinking anything of it. my lil sis, however, she always got "virgin" drinks.. and talked about wanting to be 21 so she could have a real one, my parents had to stop letting her have them (well, it was that, and they are so freaking expensive)! my parents raised me and my 2 sisters the exact same, yet my lil sis turned out to be quite the opposite of me and my oldest sis.. maybe it depends on each individual child? i dont think it would promote drinking for the AVERAGE child, but i really dont know now that my lil sis is the way she is.. maybe she is average and WE werent? lol i dont kno! sorry..

Didn't see the show - but I used to love getting a Shirley Temple when we went out to Cronos Restaurant once in a while when I was a kid - I loved the cherry and the tall frosty glass and little umbrella Never associated it with my parents drinks thouhg - it was just a treat to me.

I don't see a problem with it, there is no alcohol in it, just a fruity drink. I always got them when I was a kid, I loved them.

I don't see a problem with it either. I remember as kid I would always get to go to a restaurant on my birthday and get a Shirley Temple and I looked forward to it so much! I still love them. And when I was pregnant with Tyler I would get virgin frozen drinks like daiquiris at restaurants and share them with dd.

I don't see a problem with them. I had them all the time. Then again, my parents also used to serve me wine since I was about 14 or so. I never drank outside of the family until sometime in college. Never had a problem.

I don't think they promote teen drinking. Getting **** faced in front of your kids often, that may....

They have pina colada frozen icee thingies lol I like those! I guess I'd give my kid a virgin drink, I think there's a difference between a frozen fruity drink that may or may not have alcohol in it for adults; and say, putting apple juice in a shot glass lol

I overheard the show! I thought the dad had a great arguement. He said that the candies that are like smokes lead kids to have a higher chance of smoking later on. (I know I've seen the stats that support that arguement.) So why wouldn't drinking root beer out of a beer bottle or having sparkling apple juice in a champagne glass be promoting drinking alcohol? Dr. Phil said that drinking in front of your children will be the example the kids follow. Robin used virgin drinks as a tool to show her boys why you can still go out, have a yummy drink and still have a good time.
I still think drinking in front of your kids is what teaches them negative coping tools.

I don't see how having a glass of wine with dinner teaches negative coping skills.

because usually it's to unwind. Some people claim it's for taste. Well, either way, we teach our kids that alcohol is either the way to taste food or to cope with the stress of the day.

They're not alcoholic drinks. They usually contain any combination of 7-up or ginger ale, grenadine, juice, etc. and are garnished with a cherry and/or other fruit. It's a fun fancy drink for kids to feel a little more included in social events if they so choose. Kind of like playing dress-up in mommy's clothing, I'd say. I don't see the harm in it!
