How old were you when you found your religion?
How old are you now (how long have you been in your religion)?
What brought you to where you are in your life now (with your religion)?
Do you read any kind of religious text?
How many times a day do you pray if you do pray?
Do you meditate? If so, how many times a day?
On a scale of 1-10 how much do you absolutely love your religion?

ETA: If you aren't religious, but spiritual (I kinda intertwine the two words at times) then just go with that. I want anyone and everyone to participate. Oh, and for those who AREN'T religious at all. I just want to know who everyone is and what every one believes!!

Just thought this would be a cute "get to know you" thread!! I'll answer mine later, Kailey poopied. LOL!!

Good one, Aspen!

How old were you when you found your religion? I was born into it, but I really developed my own testimony in my early teens
How old are you now (how long have you been in your religion)? 30
What brought you to where you are in your life now (with your religion)? I'm not sure what exactly you are asking here, but I'll answer what I think you are asking. I was born into the religion I am. In our religion, there is a strong emphasis on gaining your own testimony, through study and prayer and asking if what you are reading is true. I reached my teens (I think I was 13 or 14) without having done it, so I decided to try it and gained a very strong testimony of what I believe. Since then, I spend my time trying to strengthen my testimony and expand my knowledge.
Do you read any kind of religious text? Book of Mormon, Bible, Doctorine and Covenants, Pearl of Great Price
How many times a day do you pray if you do pray? Morning at night, and before each meal. Also, several smaller prayers throughout the day.
Do you meditate? If so, how many times a day? My way of meditating is reading the scriptures, studying and pondering them. I do this once a day.
On a scale of 1-10 how much do you absolutely love your religion? 10+

How old were you when you found your religion?
I was 17-18 when I was introduced to Paganism.

How old are you now (how long have you been in your religion)?
I will be 21 in a few weeks. I've been Pagan (lightly) for 4 years. I've BEEN Pagan for 6 months.

What brought you to where you are in your life now (with your religion)?
I've read many books and thought deeply about what I believe. Over the course of these past 4 years, I've come to realize my beliefs are more and more Pagan themed.

Do you read any kind of religious text?
I read any kind of Pagan book I can get my hands on. LOL!

How many times a day do you pray if you do pray?
I have only recently started to pray. I do it sometimes 2 times a day or once a week. I'm hoping to "remember" to do it at least 2 times a day, but I'm new at praying so I forget a lot of times.

Do you meditate? If so, how many times a day?
I love meditating, but I hate it as well. Meditating is absolutely essential to cleanse our spiritual body, just as much as showering is to cleanse our physical body. Meditating is very beneficial to my happiness, but I find it very hard to find time to meditate. I try to do it every night as I lay in bed. Most of the time, it knocks me out. I spend this time balancing my chakras and praying to the Sacred. I try to clear my mind sometimes but it's very very hard to do. I remember doing it by accident once when I was like 15. All of a sudden my mind just went completely blank for about 2 seconds (I wasn't even trying) and it was the most AWESOME experience ever. It felt so peaceful to not think, but to just be.

On a scale of 1-10 how much do you absolutely love your religion?
10
I love my religion because:
It fulfills me.
It reveres nature and I think it's utterly important to care for our Earth.
It gives us life so we must give back to it.
It shows respect for all things and I think that is absolutely essential to happiness.
It is a religion that is "too each it's own".
There is no strict doctrine to follow, it's a "follow your heart" religion(s) with the number one rule of "harm none, do what thou will".
It does not discriminate against others personal beliefs of what is right and wrong.
Paganism does not dictate what is right and wrong for ones happiness.
This includes religious and human morals.

This keeps jumping out at me as a Buddhist belief. I wonder if Oceanchild can elaborate on this more? *heres hoping* lol

I think this is so important for every religion. I think it's extremely important for each person to look into their beliefs/religion and truly see WHY it is they feel the way they do. To really have a solid concept of what their religion is, not to just call onself "X religion" and blindly follow, but to see how important it is to you and just how it impacts you. I think what you are doing is wonderful.

How old were you when you found your religion? Was first introduced to Christianity at 19, then came to know the Lord at age 20

How old are you now (how long have you been in your religion)? 29

What brought you to where you are in your life now (with your religion)? My parents were atheists who didn't talk about or teach us anything about any religion; they just wrote it all off as a "bunch of crap". But ironically, my atheist father used to try and quote the Bible to justify his racist, anti-Semetic and anti-homosexual agenda (even though the Bible doesn't support any of those things) As a teenager, one of my brothers started practicing White Wicca, and my other brother has always sort of dabbled in different religions ("cafeteria style" as he puts it ) Dh and I had been friends in high school, but didn't actually start dating until after we graduated. His family used to be Roman Catholic but broke away several years before and sort of did their own home church thing. When we were first dating dh was just getting back into church (he was struggling with alcoholism and knew that the addiction was too strong for him, but not too strong for God), so he invited me to go with him. I had no idea what to expect, but was curious and figured I would just humor him. Pretty soon we started going every Sunday and I was learning so much during the sermons and lessons. It all just felt so comforting, like something was always there but I never knew it. It was a struggle at first to accept a Heavenly Father as being kind and loving because my own father was such a poop-head, but I started to really "get" that all of those struggles and experiences brought me right to where God needed me to be. I came to understand and believe the plan of salvation and that I too needed a Savior. A few months later dh and were both baptised; me as a new Christian and him renewing his commitment to the Lord. We were married 2 years later and have been committed to the Lord ever since. Dh has been studying part-time for a degree from Bible college and plans to eventually leave his career for full-time ministry; he has a real gift with reaching teenagers and it kills him to be surrounded by them all day but not allowed to share the Gospel with them, even when they ask. I'm called more to service than to evangelism, so that's the little niche I've carved out; its basically the down and dirty work that no one notices (like cleaning the church bathrooms and keeping the pews stocked) but I enjoy.

Do you read any kind of religious text? Yep, the Bible

How many times a day do you pray if you do pray? I've never been able to have set prayer times, so for me I just stop and have a chat with God whenever something pops into my head

Do you meditate? If so, how many times a day? After I've read some Scripture I like to ponder and meditate on what I've read. To be honest, I don't have the attention span for much meditation.

On a scale of 1-10 how much do you absolutely love your religion? 10. There may be some things within our church that I don't agree with, but in the end its all just fluff. My relationship woth Lord is what counts; that goes way beyond religion.

There is no such thing as White Wicca. Wicca is Wicca. How silly would it sound if I said my mom's friend was practicing White Christianity? LOL!

Well, there isn't white magic or black magic either LOL! If you'd like to know more, you can ask questions in the pagan/wiccan area or start another thread since I don't want this one to get off track. Teehee

Uh, then how come I can google about 10 pages worth of white magic sites? Maybe its just a layman's term, but isn''t white magic the one that is used for good spells and black magic the one that's used for bad spells?

Do you believe everything on the internet? I can probably google sites that say Christians are really devil worshipers in disguise, that doesn't make it true. Magic is magic...it's not good or bad. Magic doesn't have a mind of it's own, it the intent behind the person using it. Their reason for using it may be for good or bad (which we do not condone AT ALL), but it doesn't make the magic itself white or black. This is a very common misconception.

You don't need to be a smart #####. My brother says he has been practicing white magic for the past 15 years, but I guess he has no idea what he's talking about either.

How old were you when you found your religion?
I decided I was an athiest when I was about 7 or 8. My parents did not raise me with any particular religious belief. I discovered philosphical Taoism about a year ago. It is not a religion, so much as a philosphical outlook on life. There is no deity involved.

How old are you now (how long have you been in your religion)?
I am 29.

What brought you to where you are in your life now (with your religion)?
I don't totally understand this question. I'm still an athiest, there really is no progression. I didn't believe when I was 7 I don't believe now.

Do you read any kind of religious text?
I read the Tao Te Ching. I have also read the bible, the book of mormon, and the koran, but solely for informational purposes.

How many times a day do you pray if you do pray?
Zero.

Do you meditate? If so, how many times a day?
Only when I'm all wound up. So pretty rarely.

On a scale of 1-10 how much do you absolutely love your religion?
10.

Wow, seriously come on. I wasn't being rude by that it was an honest question. It was stating that everything you read on the internet isn't true. Even pagans have misconceptions of what magic is. Magic is not good nor evil, white nor black..it simply is.

How silly does this sound:

One person prays for their friend to get better. This would be a "white prayer".
One person prays that their ex who cheated on them gets what is coming to them. This would be "black prayer".

Now how silly does that sound? Prayers aren't black or white, they simply are. It's the intent behind the prayers that is "right or wrong".

I'm sorry if I am overreacting. This was supposed to be a fun getting-to-know-you thread, but instead my post gets picked apart with laughing smilies. If I did the same to you I'm sure you would see it as antagonistic as well. If I am misinformed about something, it can be pointed out without mockery.

I have not mocked you at all nor have I been rude. You have read into my replies as being sarcastic and smart alecky when that is not what they were at all. They were simply informational. I was pointing out a misconception of something that has to do with my religion. I see it all the time in all the religious debate boards for all religions, it's not picking on you. If I were to state something false about someones religion I don't doubt for a second that someone would point it out to me. The smilies were put in not to mock you, but to have it be light hearted so that you would know that I wasn't being snarky.

Aspen is right actually. A lot of Wiccan beginner books out there (aka "Fluffy" books) speak of white magic, but it is purely a misconception. There is no such thing as white or black magic, instead it is what you make it. Magic can't be divided into the categories of good and evil, because on it's own magic is neutral. When a witch performs a ritual, she can either put his/her positive or negative influences into it, and the magic will adapt to it. I don't know if I'm properly explaining this right... sorry, I'm in a tizzy trying to pack and get ready for work but I had to respond to this.

ETA: Girls, you have to realize... Wicca is an ever evolving religion. In the beginning, there was quite a bit of doing white magic and all that stuff, but now many Wiccans refuse to name magic as good or evil... instead it is neutral. When I move into my new place and get my altar stuff unpacked I'll look through my books and see if I can come up with anything that explains this better.

Goodness, it was about time one of you came out of the closet to have my back. Sheesh! LOL!

I've never come across another Wiccan or Pagan who believes in this. I started a debate on one of my religious sites that I go to. So far no one has disagreed with me. I'd say the same thing to them as I would to anyone though...same with other religions. Family members? Well....my dh agrees with me because he's Pagan too...other than that, I've never talked about religion with anyone else. I didn't grow up in a religious family.
