Hi there,

My husband and I are trying to sway for a girl and as I am still breastfeeding my son my cycles are irregular so I bought some OPKs to try to determine my ovulation.

I have been testing for over a week now and last night I got a very faint 2nd line and today the line is slightly lighter than the control line.

The last time we BD was 5 nights ago.

Do you think we should BD again tonight or do you think it will be too close to ovulation for the chances for a girl? Does anyone know approximately how long before ovulation your 2nd line would show slightly lighter than the control line?

It depends on your strategy. If you wanted a 5 day cutoff then stick too it. But if you want a 3 day cut off then I would go for it. GL!

Sorry is probably too late for advice. For what I've learned the lines thing varies. This past cycle actually I had an almost positive about 5 days before I actually got the real positive (as dark line or darker than the control). To be in the safe side is better to observe and use a cycle or two as practice before the attempt. But I know that maybe hard for lots of people.
I say you should have bdd once that night because you usually ovulate 12 to 24 or more hours after your first real positive.
Another good idea is to temp on a bbt chart so you can pinpoint ovulation with another variable.
