* Time intercourse as close to ovulation as possible: The idea is that since the Y-chromosome sperm are faster than the X-chromosome sperm, there will be more Y-chromosome sperm who reach the egg, making it more likely that a Y-chromosome carrying sperm will fertilize the egg.
* Abstain from intercourse for four to five days prior to ovulation. Have intercourse only just at the time of ovulation and just before.
* Have intercourse that allows for deep penetration. Shettles recommends rear-entry (aka, “doggy-style”). The idea is that the sperm will be deposited closer to the cervix where cervical fluid is most friendly to the Y-chromosome sperm and where the “boy sperm” are more likely to survive since there is less distance to travel.
* Men avoid tight clothes: heat kills off both types of sperm, but will kill off the less protected, smaller Y-chromosome sperm faster, according to Shettles.
* Women have an orgasm: According to Shettles, female orgasm increases the alkaline secretions in the vagina that are favorable to the Y-chromosome carrying sperm. Shettles recommends having an orgasm before or at the same time as the male partner.
To Get a Girl (According to Shettles):
* Have intercourse 2-3 days before ovulation and avoid intercourse just before ovulation until 2 days after ovulation and when you have peak cervical fluid: The idea is that when you have sex a few days before ovulation, only the X-chromosome “girl sperm” will be left in the female reproductive tract waiting to fertilize the egg when it is released.
* Have intercourse with shallow penetration: Shettles recommends “missionary position”or any position that will deposit the sperm slightly away from the cervix, giving advantage to the longer living, but slower X-chromosome-carrying sperm.
* Women avoid orgasm: Shettles suggests women avoid orgasm because it makes the vaginal environment more alkaline, and less acidic and is disadvantageous to the X-chromosome “girl sperm”.
Hmm. I don't know what to think then. We dtd every day starting about 4-5 days before o and the last time was the day of o (alternating missionary with doggy style). So I don't know if that favors boy or girl? The x-sperm should have all been there waiting for the egg to come, but the y-sperm could have been fast swimmers and fertizilized the day of o. Ugh, I hate waiting. I just want to find out!
Sometimes it's not the woman, the sexual position or anything--sometimes it's just the Y-chromosome sperm aren't quite hardy enough to make it. I had a statistics professor in college who had 6 children by 2 different women--all girls. He came into class one day and said, "Do you know what the statistical probability is for that to happen?! Something tells me it's not them".
When we ttc I will give this a try.... I thought about it last time, but we were so excited that we were ttcing, we just were bunny rabbits. Sorry for the TMI.

I knew a guy that had 5 boys with 4 different women
With DS #1 we just DTD like crazy and didn't really chart or anything, but with DS #2 we charted and we concieved on the day I O'ed. So nwe will try and see if his methods work for girl babies too!
I'm just popping in so forgive me if I am saying something that some of you might be thinking "DUH" to but it IS the man that determines whether it is a boy or girl. Some men have lots of boys, some have lots of girls and some don't favor either sex. I think nature tends to do what it wants to do much to our frustration at times
order of gender for me: girl, girl, girl, boy, boy, boy. my first was adopted and my 3rd daughter passed. I tried another girl and ended up with 3 boys. Truthfully i dont think i cant handle another one as much as i would love to have another girl
did everything shettles said, PLUS Vinegar douche to make things more acidic (per my OB/GYN's reccomendations), still got a boy AGAIN!!!! my husband dad is one of 6 boys, my husband is one of 2 boys, this will be the 3rd generation of no girls in the G. family...like someone said earlier some guys genetically have more Y than X, i read that somewhere too.

Both of our sons were conceived using positions that allowed for deep penetration... I don't know if it was coincidence, or if it really was the position...
I used to think that the Shettles Method worked.. but as I started to remember how we conceived DD.. according to Shettle's Method she should have been a boy. It really does just depend on DH's spermies to do the work Too bad there's no way for us to intervene!
