Erin tried out for the volleyball team at school. She didn't make it. She really was doing well and she usually excels at everything ~ so this is a BIG disappointment for her. Sad for her. Welcome to middle school.

Around here most kids often make whatever team they try out for since we don't want to crush their little self esteems (and because parents complain). And then the kids who shouldn't have made it in the first place sit on the bench all season. I'm sure Erin will get up, dust herself off, and find something else to go after. Probably better for their self-esteems to not make it than to sit on the bench all season.

to her. I remember trying out for the choral ensemble in high school and it was the first thing I didn't make and I was crushed. Not fun but part of life!! It's a great reality check though although it's upsetting.

Aww. I know how tough that is for a kid that is used to excelling at everything, especially the first time it happens. My oldest ran for student counsel representative last year in 3rd grade and didn't win, and she was *so* upset about it. Hugs to her. Maybe it's a blessing in disguise and she'll find something else to be involved with this year that she enjoys even more.

How is she liking middle school so far otherwise? I'm so not ready for middle school!!!
