Suppose you were about to have a conference with your child's teacher. How would you answer these questions:

"I would like to know:

I would like you to know:

I am pleased that:

I am concerned about:"

"I would like to know: How Mia interacts with her classmates as she doesn't talk about them very much at home.

I would like you to know:
That she is being rather lazy and sloppy with her work at home so if this is happening at school too, we need to work on that.

I am pleased that:
(too hard, I'm not pleased with anything so far this year!)

I am concerned about:"
the fact that she seems rather bored and unchallenged and is losing interest in school completely. Is there any way you can provide more challenging work for her?

I like those answers! I will come back and do mine.

BTW - what's going on? I thought you were happy with her program?

I was, last year when she was in grade three. Now she's still in the grade 3/4 split but my hopes that her teacher would push her haven't panned out.

She is totally checking out of school. I've never seen her like this. She doesn't want to do her homework, everything is boring and stupid. Basically my worst fears coming true. Her marks are still great so I know she's still performing at school at least. Teacher conference is on the 23rd so I will know more then, but I think I misjudged the situation. She was doing so awesome last year because there were only 4 third graders in the class. This year there are more 4's than 3's and it's back to the way it's been since the beginning. I'm very disappointed.

I am so sorry. I was one of those who checked out early on... in fact I still have mentally blocked at least 10 years of my life which were my "education." Keep advocating for her. She has a great mom!!!!

Anyway, for us:

I would like to know: What you enjoy about Hugo, what makes him unique, what his strengths and weaknesses are in the classroom and how he relates with the various other kids.

I would like you to know: Hugo needs consistency with authority figures, but I think he gets that at school so it's not a concern there. He thrives on adult interaction and would respond to higher instruction if it was given to him by an adult.

I am pleased that: Hugo enjoys going every day.

I am concerned about: We would like more academic instruction beyond the alphabet. (however, what they are doing is probably the extent of the program they offer) I don't like the holiday emphasis on candy like Trunk or Treat and an Easter version of TOT. Due to his food allergies we have to opt him out of all those and actually keep him home that morning when they have those activities.
