Ani finished 8th grade today. She got a late start to the school year because she was in PA with my mom helping my uncle (he was very ill). Then I went out of town for two weeks, she had a friend over for a week, and then she got sick. So the end of her school year got pushed out a bit.

She got straight A's one quarter of 7th grade. She was determined to get all A's all four quarters of 8th. She did it! Barely, but she did it (twice her math grade was 90%... Algebra is a bit difficult for her - more mental than anything - she thinks she's bad in math for some reason).

She has the 8th grade CAT test to take and she's still going to do math over the summer, but otherwise she's done until the end of August or the beginning of September. Then on to high school work!

Is she excited to start high school? What will she be working on next year?

It's school. That's never exciting lol

She'll be doing American Government, Earth and Space Science, ummm... Latin, Algebra I and then Algebra II (she's already partway through A1), haven't decided exactly what books she'll be reading, writing using IEW, uhhhh... that's all I can remember at the moment lol

Are you doing a semester or a year of government? What are you using for all this? (I think Calvert stops at 8th, right?)

A year. We love politics. Maybe it's partly because of where we live. DC news is our local news so I grew up hearing about it all the time and so have my kids. We've been to so many rallies and things in DC over the years. So Ani's really looking forward to that part of her schooling at least. Bonus, it's an election year.

I'm basically creating everything she's doing cobbling together various resources. Yes, Calvert is PK-8 so she's done with Calvert.

For government we're using a Complete Idiot's Guide book. I can't remember exactly which one. Some videos from three Great Courses. You Decide (Supreme Court cases) from Critical Thinking. Also the textbook from Teacher Worksheets - School Curriculum - Home School Curriculum - Mathematics Lesson Plan - Core Curriculum | Complete Curriculum

For Earth and Space Science, we're using the textbook from Teacher Worksheets - School Curriculum - Home School Curriculum - Mathematics Lesson Plan - Core Curriculum | Complete Curriculum, some videos from three Great Courses, The Story of Science by Joy Hakim. I think that's it.

Math we use Teaching Textbooks.

Latin we're using CAP Latin Alive!

I think you'll like Latin Alive. We have the first book (bought it a long time ago dirt cheap... not using it yet), and it's great.

Congrats!

I checked out that Complete Curriculum link and I am really tempted to join it for only $4.95, even if I am not "really" homeschooling. I might!
