I am having a really hard time teaching Angie to recognize sounds in words. She seems to be able to learn the sounds but not pick them out in words. We are using Explode the Code for phonics and she just doesn't seem to be able pick up on which words make what sounds. I am thinking that she just isn't ready developmentally and that maybe it will just click with her one day. Jeremy was sort of like this too when I was teaching him to read so I think she will get it eventually. It is just frustrating.
Did your kids have problems with this? Did they eventually get it? At what age do you think they were able to pick out sounds in words?
