Right now Alexis isn't aware that she is different, but I worry about how it will affect her once she does realize it. The children in her special ed class are great, but once she's more mainstreamed or even older, the kids can sometimes get mean and nasty to kids who are different. So I worry about how she'll deal with it.

Kids can be mean, but most of them are very accepting. With inclusion, more and more kids are being exposed to children with special needs. My students with LD are very well accepted, win awards, are voted on for school plays and other stuff, etc.
