When did you find out your child had a discability?
Had you suspected one?
How did you handle the "news?"

When did you find out your child had a discability? Alexis was diagnosed with the visual impairment at 5 months, the SOD at 6 months, the autism and MR at 5 years.
Had you suspected one? Not initially for the visual impairment and definately not for the MR (and we still really don't agree with the testing and the way it was performed, but we'll revisit that at a later date), but with the SOD, we knew there were possible autistic tendencies, so not surprised by the autism
How did you handle the "news?" Not really well, but I got mad, grieved, and then learned to deal with it. My little girl needed me and daddy to be strong for her, so we were. Now, we just roll with it and deal with things as they come along

Our dd was diagnosed at 6 years with LD and impaired hearing. We pretty much suspected it. It didn't really bother us although I felt really bad about the hearing problem, because I missed a lot of signs.
