my ds has a LD, he is now 10, but we knew since he was 18 months that his development was not right. so we immediately got the testing started, his vocabulary at the time was 2 words, eat and ball. it took a few months but therapy(speech and occupational) were started and then sometime around 3 he was placed in a classroom where he received more speech and ot. when he started kindergarden, he went 1/2 day and the other 1/2 of the day he went to a language based classroom. he repeated kindergarden and now is in 3rd grade and is still in that language based classroom. this is his last year in there. he does have a regular homeroom, and he joins them in art and gym and now that the curriculum is getting more advanced he also joins them for science and social studies. his classroom has a speech teacher, i don't believe she does speech therapy except for the children of this classroom. they get group and individual every week. i have to say that i think his classroom is absolutely amazing and i can't praise them enough. they are so caring. there is a waiting list to get into this class and i feel very fortunate that we were lucky to have spent so much time there.
